An indirect hemagglutination test for the diagnosis of leptospirosis is described; the test uses a soluble antigen from serotype patoc to sensitize sheep erythrocytes which are then fixed with glutaraldehyde. Evaluation of this procedure indicates that it is more reliable than the conventional macroscopic agglutination test and, in contrast with both microscopic and macroscopic agglutination te...
A macroscopic agglutination test for detecting leptospiral antibodies in human sera is described. The test utilizes a stained preparation of non-pathogenic leptospires and is performed on the Brewer diagnostic cards used for bovine brucellosis screening. The agglutination of the stained antigen is more easily observed than the current macroscopic slide test using unstained leptospiral antigens....
A passive microcapsule agglutination test for the diagnosis of leptospirosis was developed by utilizing chemically stable microcapsules instead of sheep erythrocytes. In the test, sonically disrupted antigens of leptospira were sensitized to microcapsules treated with glutaraldehyde. Compared with the microscopic agglutination test, the passive microcapsule agglutination test showed a relativel...
In the last few decades, leptospirosis has emerged globally as a fatal infectious disease. Yet, an understanding of pathogenesis continues to remain within grey areas scientific evidence. majority cases, infections are asymptomatic. The benchmark test for is microscopic agglutination test, commonly known MAT test. standard treatment oral doxycycline, although penicillin and azithromycin can als...
We conducted a 10 years’ retrospective study in 347 symptomatic individuals to assess the regional distribution of leptospirosis. A total 173 were diagnosed positive (49.8%): 11.5% found Leptospira by microscopic agglutination test positive, whereas 38.3% microscopy analysis. The maximum peak leptospirosis was reached 2017 (n = 32). most common serovars Icterohaemorrhagiae and Poi.
Four hundred and six serum samples from buffalo (Syncerus caffer) were tested for leptospirosis, using the microscopic agglutination test. Seven buffaloes (1.7%) reacted positive and 27 (6.6%) inconclusive. Reactions against L. tarassovi and L. hardjo were the most prevalent.
We read the article by Dutta et al on “Leptospirosis An Overview” with interest.1 The problem in utilizing microscopic agglutination test (MAT) has been highlighted and we shall discuss briefly the current status of MAT. MAT is considered the gold standard test for diagnosis of leptospirosis. It has unsurpassed specificity, but its sensitivity is low compared to ELISA/SAT (Slide agglutination t...
