The evolution of surface topography and crystallographic texture was investigated under balanced biaxial stretching in sheets of the aluminum alloy 5052-H32. Two different lots of material, with an initial nominal thickness of 1 mm, were tested in the as-received condition. Samples with increasing levels of balanced biaxial strain were deformed using a modified Marciniak in-plane stretching tes...

Objectives: To evaluate the influence of surface treatment and adhesive system on shear bond strength failure mode orthodontic brackets bonded to polymethylmethacrylate surfaces. Methods: Ninety metal (n=15) were aged discs SR Ivocron subjected three conditions (no treatment; sandblasting with 50-?m aluminum oxide; roughening a tungsten bur), using two combinations adhesives (methylmethacrylate...

in this study, the effects of oleothermal modification on physical and mechanical peroperties of fir wood (abeis sp.) blocks were examined. at first, some blocks of fir wood with 5 × 20 × 120 cm dimensions were prepared. the blocks were treated in soybean oil. the effects of 3 factors such as treatments temperature (180and 200 °c), holding time (12 and 15 h) and initial moisture content of wood...

The kinetic roughening behavior of vicinal Si(OO1) surfaces is studied with scanning tunneling microscopy. By analyzing the height-height correlation function of the Si layers that have been grown we found, in the case of islands growth, an algebraic roughening behavior with a roughness exponent of 0.68 * 0.05. In the step flow mode, however, we found non-algebraic roughening behavior.

We studied the kinetic roughening dynamic of two coupled interfaces formed in paper wetting experiments at low evaporation rate. We observed three different regimes of impregnation in which kinetic roughening dynamics of coupled precursor and main fronts belong to different universality classes; nevertheless both interfaces are pinned in the same configuration. Reported experimental observation...

We have examined the structural properties of InP/In0.53Ga0.47As superlattices grown by metalorganic molecular beam epitaxy by varying the periodicity and the total thickness. We observed a roughening transition, which involves the formation of wavy interfaces, when the period and total thickness of the superlattice exceeded critical values. Interface roughening in the wake of the growth front ...

The roughening phase diagram of the d=3 Ising model with uniaxially anisotropic interactions is calculated for the entire range of anisotropy, from decoupled planes to the isotropic model to the solid-on-solid model, using hard-spin mean-field theory. The phase diagram contains the line of ordering phase transitions and, at lower temperatures, the line of roughening phase transitions, where the...

This article provides experimental evidence on the pronounced three-dimensional surface effects caused by tension twinning at early stages of plasticity of a magnesium alloy. To achieve this goal, multiscale mechanical testing was combined with strain field, texture and surface morphology quantification. The current investigation correlates crystallography-driven, grain-scale surface roughening...

Rapid progress in the reduction of substrate thickness for silicon-based microelectronics leads to a significant reduction of the device bending stiffness and the need to address its implication for the thermo-mechanical fatigue behavior of metallization layers. Results on 5 µm thick Cu films reveal a strong substrate thickness-dependent microstructural evolution. Substrates with hs = 323 and 2...

We studied the kinetic roughening dynamics of drying wet paper. The configurations of dry paper sheets are found to be self-similar, rater than self-affine. Accordingly, the paper roughening dynamics corresponds to the new class of anomalous kinetic roughening [J. J. Ramasco, J. M. López, and M. A. Rodríguez, Phys. Rev. Lett. 84, 2199 (2000)], characterized by the equal local and global roughne...
