Calpain 1 (CPN1) is a ubiquitous cysteine protease that exists in both cytosol and cardiac mitochondria. Mitochondrial CPN1 (mit-CPN1) is located in the intermembrane space and matrix. Activation of mit-CPN1 within the intermembrane space increases cardiac injury by releasing apoptosis-inducing factor from mitochondria during ischemia-reperfusion (IR). We asked if activation of mit-CPN1 is invo...

In C. elegans, increased lifespan in daf-2 insulin/IGF-1 receptor mutants is accompanied by up-regulation of the MDL-1 Mad basic helix-loop-helix leucine zipper transcription factor. Here we describe the role of mdl-1 in C. elegans germline proliferation and aging. The deletion allele mdl-1(tm311) shortened lifespan, and did so significantly more so in long-lived daf-2 mutants implying that mdl...

In this paper, we discuss the difference in code lengths between the code based on the minimum description length (MDL) principle (the MDL code) and the Bayes code under the condition that the same prior distribution is assumed for both codes. It is proved that the code length of the Bayes code is smaller than that of the MDL code by (1) or (1) for the discrete model class and by (1) for the pa...

MDL 29311 is an antioxidant that lowers plasma triglycerides and raises high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol in rats. It lowers triglycerides in rats by enhancing the clearance of very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) by the liver (Sheetz, M. J., et al. 1994. Metabolism. 43: 232-240). In this paper, the possibility that MDL 29311 enhances VLDL clearance by altering the apolipoprotein (apo) ...

MDL 19,592 is a new semisynthetic cephalosporin with a good therapeutic potential against Gram-positive bacterial infections when administered orally or parenterally. In the oral treatment of benzylpenicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections in mice, MDL 19,592 was superior to cephalexin, cephradine, cefaclor, cefadroxil and cefroxadine. These in vivo results reflect the in vitro supe...

Abstract Pattern mining is well established in data research, especially for binary datasets. Surprisingly, there much less work about numerical pattern and this research area remains under-explored. In paper we propose Mint , an efficient MDL-based algorithm The MDL principle a robust reliable framework widely used mining, as subgroup discovery. reuse discovering useful patterns returning set ...

SUMMARY This paper addresses the problem of learning Bayesian belief networks (BBN) based on the minimum description length (MDL) principle. First, we give a formula of description length based on which the MDL-based procedure learns a BBN. Secondly, we point out that the difference between the MDL-based and Cooper and Herskovits procedures is essentially in the priors rather than in the approa...

The minimum description length(MDL) method is one of the pioneer methods of parametric order estimation with a wide range of applications. We investigate the definition of two-stage MDL for parametric linear model sets and exhibit some drawbacks of the theory behind the existing MDL. We introduce a new description length which is inspired by the Kolmogorov complexity principle.

We introduce the minimum description length (MDL) principle, a general principle for inductive inference based on the idea that regularities (laws) underlying data can always be used to compress data. We introduce the fundamental concept of MDL, called the stochastic complexity, and we show how it can be used for model selection. We briefly compare MDL-based model selection to other approaches ...

The Minimum Description Length (MDL) approach to shape modelling is reviewed. It solves the point correspondence problem of selecting points on shapes defined as curves so that the points correspond across a data set. An efficient numerical implementation is presented and made available as open source Matlab code. The problems with the early MDL approaches are discussed. Finally the MDL approac...
