The lumbosacral trunk, typically comprised of part of the fourth lumbar ventral rami and the entirety of the fifth lumbar ventral rami, serves as a connection between the lumbar and sacral plexuses. Developmental differences underlie the variable relative contributions of L4 and L5 to the lumbosacral trunk. Herein, we report a rare case in which dissection of an adult male cadaver revealed no L...

Introduction. During periacetabular osteotomy (PAO), the sciatic, femoral, and obturator nerves are at risk. Most frequently nerve lesions can be attributed to a mechanical cause; however, in the absence of a clear mechanical cause surgeons are faced with a diagnostic problem and in many cases no diagnosis will be established. We report a case of inflammatory neuropathy of the lumbosacral plexu...

OBJECTIVE To ascertain the etiology of non-traumatic plexopathy and clarify the clinical, electrophysiological characteristics according to its etiology. METHOD We performed a retrospective analysis of 63 non-traumatic plexopathy patients that had been diagnosed by nerve conduction studies (NCS) and needle electromyography (EMG). Clinical, electrophysiological, imaging findings were obtained ...

3D diffusion-weighted steady-state free precession imaging (3D DW-SSFP) with isotropic resolution was performed to delineate structures of the human lumbosacral plexus (LSP). 3D DW-SSFP clearly revealed detailed anatomy of the LSP and its branches. Our data suggest that the sequence based on 3D DW-SSFP can be used for high-resolution MR imaging of the peripheral nervous system.

It is long known that a large portion of the lumbosacral plexus is located intra-abdominally, in the retroperitoneal space. However, most of literature descriptions of lesions on this plexus refer to its extra-abdominal parts whereas its intra-abdominal portions are often neglected. The objective of this review article is to describe the laparoscopic anatomy of intrapelvic nerve bundles, as wel...

Idiopathic lumbosacral plexitis (LSP) or non-diabetic lumbosacral radiculoplexus neuropathy (LRPN) is a rare monophasic immune-mediated disorder. The disease is characterized by multiple lumbosacral root and nerve involvement in the absence of trauma, mass lesion or elevated blood sugar. We report a 60-year-old man presenting with a 4-day history of acute-onset sharp left hip pain radiating dow...

Introduction. Branches of sacral plexus play an important role in the motor and sensory innervation of the lower limb. Various variations observed during the spinal operations have motivated us to start the study aimed on determination of the sacral plexus formation from its exit of particular roots from sacral foramina up to their formation into terminal branches. Material and method. One hund...
