This paper examines the effectiveness of a generalized dynamic cepstrum in distant speech recognition. The generalized dynamic cepstrum (DyMFGC) is based upon the forward masking on the generalized logarithmic spectrum instead of the log-spectrum, which intends to make it robust to additive noise as well as convolutional noise. Digit recognition tests were carried out in a relatively quiet and ...

One important aspect of the relationship between spoken and written Chinese is the ranked syllable-tocharacter mapping spectrum, which is the ranked list of syllables by the number of characters that map to the syllable. Previously, this spectrum is analyzed for more than 400 syllables without distinguishing the four intonations. In the current study, the spectrum with 1280 toned syllables is a...

Logarithmic frequency representation plays an important role in many audio and acoustic signal processing applications. This article presents a methodology for frequency-warped signal processing where the frequency representation is logarithmic above a certain limit frequency. It is demonstrated how this approach can be used with FFT or linear prediction to perform non-parametric, or parametric...

With the development of new Internet Things (IoT) applications, such as unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), aerial (UAV), and surface vessel (USV), security wireless device identification is getting more attention. The radio frequency fingerprint (RFF) technology utilizes unique hardware characteristics for identity authentication, which overcomes risks traditional authentication schemes based on di...

We elaborate on a single-mode description of the ballistic charge transport through a narrow constriction in a compressible (composite fermion) Quantum Hall liquid. In the presence of long-range Coulomb interactions we find logarithmic deviations from the Luttinger liquid behavior. These extra logarithmic factors are shown to modify the conductance, shot noise spectrum, and other observables.

Novelty is an important psychological construct that affects both perceptual and behavioral processes. Here, we propose a lexical novelty score (LNS) for a song’s lyric, based on the statistical properties of a corpus of 275,905 lyrics (available at www.smcnus.org/lyrics/). A lyric-level LNS was derived as a function of the inverse document frequencies of its unique words. An artist-level LNS w...

In this paper, we propose a new signal processing technique, “specmurt anasylis,” that provides piano-rolllike visual display of multi-tone signals (e.g., polyphonic music). Specmurt is defined as inverse Fourier transform of linear spectrum with logarithmic frequency, unlike familiar cepstrum defined as inverse Fourier transform of logarithmic spectrum with linear frequency. We apply to music ...
