Free space optics is considered the topic of the day and have a large variety of applications which free space separates source from destination such as External cavity tunable laser (ECTL). In ECTL, laser source emits Gaussian beam that propagates in plane with substrate until reach external reflector. The efficiency of these applications depends on the amount of light that coupled back to the...
A new measurement method to measure vibrational motions of objects is presented. The original principle is similar to the previous work that utilized a 3-facet mirror to obtain three dimensional positions and orientations of rigid bodies. While the previous work was presented for only stationary objects, in this paper, we newly investigate the feasibility of this method for dynamic applications...
In this paper, a new measuring system is proposed which can measure the 3-dimensional position and orientation of rigid bodies. Its measurement principle is based on detection of laser beam reflected from a specially fabricated mirror that looks like a triangular pyramid having an equilateral cross-sectional shape. The mirror has three lateral reflective surfaces inclined 45° to its bottom surf...
Electromagnetic wave frequency upshifting upon reflection from a relativistic mirror (the double Doppler effect) can be used for the generation of coherent high-frequency radiation. The reflected high-frequency pulse inherits the coherence, polarization, and temporal shape from the original laser pulse. A partly reflecting relativistic mirror (flying mirror) can be formed by a breaking wake wav...

We describe a simple design, laser-diode-pumped cw Nd:YAG active-mirror laser and present a thermal analysis of the crystal. A cw output power of 2.4 W and an M(2) beam quality value of less than 1.9 at an incident pumping power of 8.9 W were obtained. From the thermal analysis we predict that the output power can be increased by increasing the pump beam diameter and the pump power at a constan...
Reflecting light from a mirror moving close to the speed of light has been envisioned as a route towards producing bright X-ray pulses since Einstein's seminal work on special relativity. For an ideal relativistic mirror, the peak power of the reflected radiation can substantially exceed that of the incident radiation due to the increase in photon energy and accompanying temporal compression. H...
We discuss the use of photorefractive four-wave mixing for coupling and locking of lasers. A demonstration of the double phase-conjugate mirror and the semilinear passive phase-conjugate mirror, pumped simultaneously by different lasers, is described. Cleanup of a distorted laser beam using another local laser and configurations for the phase locking of lasers are discussed.
We demonstrate a simple and compact laser source that directly produces a Bessel–Gauss beam. The laser resonator consists of a diode-end-pumped Nd:YAG crystal, a planar mirror, and a diffractive mirror designed to phase-conjugate only the lowest-order Bessel–Gauss beam. 2004 Elsevier B.V.
