We resolve an open problem in commutative algebra and Field Arithmetic, posed by Jarden – Let R be a generalized Krull domain. Is the ring R[[X]] of formal power series over R a generalized Krull domain? We show that the answer is negative.
This paper continues our study, begun in [MS], of the relationship between the prime ideals of an algebra A and of a subalgebra R such that R ⊂A is a faithfully flat H -Galois extension, for some finite-dimensional Hopf algebra H . In that paper we defined three basic Krull relations, Incomparability (INC), t-Lying Over (t-LO), and Going Up (GU), analogous to the classical Krull relations for p...
Let M be a Krull monoid. Then every element of M may be written as a finite product of irreducible elements. If for every a ∈ M , each two factorizations of a have the same number of irreducible elements, then M is called half-factorial. Using a property of element exponentiation, we provide a new characterization of half-factoriality, valid for all Krull monoids whose class group has torsion-f...
A first important result in dimension theory is the fact that the Krull dimension of the ring K[X1, . . . , X`] is equal to ` when K is a field. In the literature this result is always obtained after some preliminary efforts that seem excessive for settling such an intuitive fact. For example, many authors rely on the principal ideal theorem of Krull, whose proof is very tricky. Matsumura [6,ch...
Given an iterated skew polynomial ring C[y1; τ1, δ1] . . . [yn; τn, δn] over a complete local ring C with maximal ideal m, we prove, under suitable assumptions, that the completion at the ideal m+ 〈y1, y2, . . . , yn〉 is an iterated skew power series ring. When C is a field, this completion is a local, noetherian, Auslander regular domain with Krull, classical Krull and global dimension all equ...
The notion of deviation of an ordered set has been introduced by Gabriel as a tool to classify rings. It measures how far a given ordered set P deviates from ordered sets satisfying the descending chain condition. We consider here a more general notion and, according to Robson, we define the Krull dimension of P as the deviation of the collection F(P) of its final segments ordered by inclusion....
