plagiarism in esl/efl learning contexts has been established as a dynamic and multi-layered phenomenon and has become a topic engaging many researchers in a heated debate in recent years. comparisons of student-generated texts with their source texts have shown that students rely on source texts in their writings and copying is a major strategy used by both l1 and l2 writers. in our country a...
In this paper, we study multidimensional integrals. We introduce a generalized fuzzy integral and we present a Fubini-like theorem for this generalized fuzzy integral. As this research was partly motivated by the definition of citation indices, we also describe how such multidimensional integrals can be used to define such indices. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. Citation, an integral component of research papers, implies certain kind of relevance that is not well captured in current Information Retrieval (IR) researches. In this paper, we explore ingesting citation and co-citation analysis results into IR modeling process. We operationalize on going beyond the general uniform document prior assumption in language modeling framework through deriving doc...
Citation-based similarity measures such as Bibliographic Coupling and Co-Citation are an integral component of many information retrieval systems. However, comparisons of the strengths and weaknesses of measures are challenging due to the lack of suitable test collections. This paper presents CITREC, an open evaluation framework for citation-based and text-based similarity measures. CITREC prep...
Appropriate reference to other texts is an essential feature of most academic writing, and we should expect courses in academic writing to sensitize students to the choices that are available to them when they decide to refer to other texts. A brief review of popular EAP writing textbooks finds, however, that attention is given mainly to surface features of citation, focusing on quotation, summ...
We assessed all papers published in two key environmental modelling journals in 2008 to determine the degree to which the citation counts of the papers could be predicted without considering the paper’s quality. We applied both random forests and general additive models to predict citation counts using a range of easily quantified or categorised characteristics of the papers as covariates. The ...

It is now generally accepted that academic writing is a social activity by which the authors negotiate with their audience to gain community acceptance for their findings. One of the ways to achieve such an acceptance is by establishing intertextual links to prior research using citation. Despite a vast research on the topic and suggestion of typologies for the form and function of citation in ...
