We present a rare case of unilateral ossification of infratemporal space the in an 11-years old male with swelling in the right temporal and orbital area. His medical history was unremarkable. Radiographic evaluation with spiral CT scan revealed separated ossified particles inside of infratemporal space. After 2 separate proce...

BACKGROUND A variety of tumors arise in or extend to the infratemporal fossa. We investigated the outcome of surgical management of these tumors. METHODS We conducted a retrospective review of a craniofacial approach to resection of infratemporal fossa tumors from 1992 to 2008 in a cancer center. RESULTS Forty-three patients underwent resection of a infratemporal fossa tumors (68% men). Med...

OBJECTIVES To demonstrate that the regions of the infratemporal fossa and skull base at the level of the foramen ovale can be visualized endoscopically and that structures can be manipulated within these regions using endoscopic instruments. METHODS Cadaveric dissection of 3 human cadavers using an endoscopic optical dissector. In all, 6 endoscopic infratemporal fossa and skull base approache...

The infratemporal fossa is a deep quadrangular space located at the inferior aspect of the middle cranial fossa. Numerous surgical approaches have been described to gain access to benign and malignant pathology of this anatomical area. The transzygomatic transmandibular approach provides excellent wide exposure of the infratemporal space, for resection of tumours afflicting this region.

Infratemporal fossa injuries are uncommon and often go undetected presenting later with complications. We present a case of an infratemporal fossa penetrating injury with a ball point spring following a vehicular accident. Post-traumatic trismus even following supposedly trivial injury in the area should raise suspicion of possible injury in this location.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS While there are many benefits to the endoscopic endonasal approach to the infratemporal fossa, involvement of the petrous portion of the internal carotid artery (ICA) poses a unique challenge. The endoscopic endonasal approach requires establishing the relationship of the petrous ICA to anatomical landmarks to guide the surgeon. This study evaluates the relationship of pet...
