Holography is an attractive imaging technique as it offers the ability to view a complete three-dimensional volume from one image. However, holography is not widely applied to the regime of fluorescence microscopy, because fluorescent light is incoherent and creating holograms requires a coherent interferometer system. We review two methods of generating digital Fresnel holograms of threedimens...

Upconversion of images is a generic method for shifting the spectral content of entire images. A comprehensive theory for upconversion of incoherent light images is presented and compared against experiments. In particular we consider the important case for upconversion of infinity corrected light. We show that the spatial resolution for upconversion of incoherent light images is better than fo...

Introduction: Hollow gold nanoshells (HAuNS) are one of the most attractive nanostructures for biomedical applications due to their interesting physicochemical properties. This study sought to evaluate the plasmonic photothermal effect of HAuNS irradiated with incoherent light on melanoma cell line. Materials and Methods: After the synthesis of nanostructures, the temperature changes of HAuNS ...

We present a modal theory of self-trapping spatially incoherent light beams in any general nonlinear media. We find that a self-trapped incoherent beam induces a multimode waveguide which guides the beam itself by multiply populating the guided modes. The self-trapping process alters the statistics of the incoherent beam, rendering it localized. We find the conditions for self-trapping (“existe...

We suggest a novel type of composite spatial optical soliton created by a coherent vortex beam guiding a partially incoherent light beam in a self-focusing nonlinear medium. We show that the incoherence of the guided mode may enhance, rather than suppress, the vortex azimuthal instability, and we also demonstrate strong destabilization of dipole-mode solitons by partially incoherent light.
