Conditioned taste aversion (CTA) learning describes a phenomenon wherein an animal learns to avoid consumption of a particular taste or food following its pairing with an aversive stimulus. Although initially demonstrated with radiation and classical emetics, CTAs have also been shown with drugs of abuse. The ability of rewarding drugs to support CTA learning was described as paradoxical by man...

There is a pressing need to improve the ability to identify individuals at risk for nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI; e.g., cutting or burning oneself); unfortunately, beyond prior NSSI, there are few powerful longitudinal predictors of NSSI. The present study addressed this limitation by investigating the ability of a novel factor--low aversion to self-cutting stimuli--to longitudinally predict N...

Their experiments investigated coalitions, bargaining, risk aversion, and deadlines. Brief descriptions of their work provide a foundation for observations on the history and progress of experimental economics.

In three studies, we show that loss aversion is essential to greed, in addition to acquisitive behavior. This drives them towards paying for insurances and warranties to avoid future financial or product loss. Furthermore, when they experience a history of no-losses, it limits their purchase likelihood of insurances.

We study a coordination game with randomly changing payoffs and small frictions in changing actions. Using only backwards induction, we find that players must coordinate on the risk-dominant equilibrium. More precisely, a continuum of fully rational players are randomly matched to play a symmetric 2 2 game. The payoff matrix changes according to a random walk. Players observe these payoffs and ...

Each agent j [ 1, . . . , N receives an independent shock influencing her degree of risk aversion, then h j undertakes a risky or safe investment. Prior investment in ‘related’ industries reduces the uncertainty. The shock history and this intertemporal interaction determine the long-run growth rate.  2000 Elsevier Science S.A. Excessive discounting of future rewards has been related to a variety of risky behaviors and adverse clinical conditions. Prior work examining delay discounting in schizophrenia suggests an elevated discount rate. However, it remains uncertain whether this reflects the disease process itself or an underlying genetic vulnerability, whether it is selective for delay discounting or reflects pervas...
