Hemagglutinin (HA) is the principal antigen, present on the viral surface. It is the primary target for neutralizing antibodies. In this paper, we have carried out studies on human hemagglutinin protein from H5N1 strain with homologous hemagglutinin from non-human sources of H5N1 strains. In all strains, part of the antigenic site (128-141) predicted by computer program "Antigenic", corresponds...
Equine infectious anemia (EIA) virus which was propagated on an equine dermal cell line agglutinated guinea pig erythrocytes. Viral fluids containing about 10(7.5) mean tissue culture infective doses/ml showed hemagglutinating (HA) titers ranging from 16 to 32 units/0.05 ml. Results of cesium chloride equilibrium density gradient centrifugation revealed that the hemagglutinin was inseparable fr...
BACKGROUND Vaccines against avian influenza viruses often require high hemagglutinin (HA) doses or adjuvants to achieve serological titers associated with protection against disease. In particular, viruses of the H7 subtype frequently do not induce strong antibody responses following immunization. OBJECTIVES To evaluate whether poor immunogenicity of H7 viruses is an intrinsic property of the...
Transgenic mice that express the influenza virus hemagglutinin (HA) on pancreatic islet beta cells (ins-HA) demonstrate tolerance of HA even after immunization with influenza virus. Surprisingly, when Ins-HA mice were mated with a transgenic mouse expressing a TCR specific for an epitope of HA that is restricted by MHC class I H-2Kd (Clone-4 TCR), the resulting double transgenic (Ins-HA x Clone...
Newcastle disease virus (NDV)-expressing avian influenza virus (AIV) hemagglutinin (HA) of subtype H5 was constructed by reverse genetics. A cloned full-length copy of the genome of the lentogenic NDV strain Clone 30 was used for insertion of the ORF encoding the HA of the highly pathogenic AIV isolate A/chicken/Italy/8/98 (H5N2) in the intergenic region between the NDV fusion and hemagglutinin...
The Hemagglutinin (HA) is a protein of influenza A virus. It is present on the surface of influenza A virus and it is a glycoprotein. The HA is identified as potential drug target. H1N1 thiazolides, proved to be a potent drug in the inhibition of H1N1 replication. It is also known as inhibitor of other strains of influenza A virus. Thiazolide drug represses viral HA's maturation at a level whic...
On April 21, 2008, four whooper swans were found dead at Lake Towada, Akita prefecture, Japan. Highly pathogenic avian influenza virus of the H5N1 subtype was isolated from specimens of the affected birds. The hemagglutinin (HA) gene of the isolate belongs to clade 2.3.2 in the HA phylogenetic tree.
We isolated an avian influenza virus, A/duck/Hunan/747/2011(mixed), which included the H5N1 and H6N6 subtypes, from a duck in China. Phylogenetic analysis indicates that the H5 hemagglutinin (HA) gene belongs to clade 2.3.2.1, the H6 HA gene belongs to the group II lineage, and the other internal genes show different recombination events.
avian influenza virus (aiv) infection is a major cause of bird or human mortality and morbidity, therefore the rapid identification of the virus is of important clinical and epidemiological implication. methods: a multiplex reverse transcriptase pcr (rt-pcr) was optimized for the detection of influenza a virus and the h5 and h9 subtypes. the influenza type a specific primers were directed to th...
