Grooves on the surface of the plasmalemma(plasma membrane) of frozen-etched yeast cells have been shown by many investigators (1, 10, 12) . Necas et al. (13) showed interconnected grooves on the surface of frozen-etched Saccharomyces cerevisiae protoplasts, but such structures could not be so effectively demonstrated in frozen-etched protoplasts prefixed in glutaraldehyde . Structures comparabl...

A novel optical sensor for label-free biomolecular binding assay using a one-dimensional photonic crystal in a total-internal-reflection geometry is proposed and demonstrated. The simple configuration provides a narrow optical resonance to enable sensitive measurements of molecular binding, and at the same time employs an open interface to enable real-time measurements of binding dynamics. Ultr...

Goose erythrocytes preserved with glutaraldehyde were compared with fresh cells in hemagglutination and hemagglutination-inhibition tests for arbovirus antigens and antibodies. The glutaraldehyde-fixed cells were as sensitive and specific as theresh erythrocytes and were stable at 4 degrees C for 6 months.

Two improved procedures were developed for activating ferritin so that the ferritin could be covalently linked to antibodies. One procedure involved use of a water-soluble carbodiimide and N-hydroxysuccinimide to prepare ferritin-containing activated esters. The other involved activation of the ferritin with excess glutaraldehyde. The ferritin-antibody conjugates prepared with the two procedure...

Freshly prepared 2% acid and alkaline glutaraldehyde solutions were stored at 4, 20, and 37 C. At intervals, samples were removed and changes in pH, ultraviolet spectrum, and sporicidal activity (against Bacillus pumilus spores) were recorded. Alkaline solutions stored at 4 C showed little changes in these properties, whereas such solutions stored at 37 C became turbid and showed a decrease in ...

The behavior of cationized ferritin (CF) binding sites on the surface of Leishmania mexicana amazonensis (amastigotes, infective and non-infective promastigotes) and their participation in the interaction with macrophages were evaluated. Glutaral-dehyde-fixed parasites treated with CF present a uniform labelling over the whole cell surface. However, living parasites displayed CF patches and cap...

PURPOSE To evaluate and compare clinically and radiographically use of hydroxyapatite crystals and 2% glutaraldehyde as a pulpotomy agent. METHOD Thirty deciduous molars were treated with pulpotomy using hydroxyapatite crystals and 2% glutaraldehyde. RESULTS Clinical and radiographic findings were observed at three months and six months. The success rate was found to be 100% clinically and ...

A versatile enzyme immobilization strategy for thin film continuous flow processing is reported. Here, non-covalent and glutaraldehyde bioconjugation are used to immobilize enzymes on the surfaces of borosilicate reactors. This approach requires only ng of protein per reactor tube, with the stock protein solution readily recycled to sequentially coat >10 reactors. Confining reagents to thin fil...

An assessment of exposure to glutaraldehyde in cold sterilisation and x ray development processes was undertaken in 14 locations at six hospitals in south east England. The results obtained indicate that routine exposures of hospital workers to airborne concentrations of the compound are within the current United Kingdom occupational exposure limit of 0.7 mg m-3. There was the potential for ski...
