Enzymes of essential amino acid biosynthesis pathways are the targets of choice for drug discovery as these pathways are absent in mammals. Inhibitors of these enzymes will have reduced toxicity problems for the vertebrate host organisms. The histidine biosynthesis pathway is an important biochemical pathway found in bacteria, archebacteria, fungi and plants but absent in human. In recent times...
Due to contamination of barley grains by Fusarium langsethiae, T-2 toxin can be present in the brewing process. It has been observed that the presence of the yeast Geotrichum candidum during malting can reduce the final concentration of this mycotoxin in beer. In this work, a co-culture method was carried out for both microorganisms in order to evaluate the effect on T-2 mycotoxin concentration...
We report here the draft genome sequence of Geotrichum candidum strain 3C, which is a filamentous yeast-like fungus that holds great promise for biotechnology. The genome was sequenced using Ion Torrent and 454 platforms. The estimated genome size was 41.4 Mb, and 14,579 protein-coding genes were predicted ab initio.
Stereochemically pure compounds containing an all carbon quaternary stereocenter based on 1-tetralone, 1-indanone and 4-chromanone scaffolds have been synthesized by employing Lipase PS (Burkholderia cepacia) catalyzed kinetic resolution. These scaffolds are further functionalized by microbial ketoreductase enzymes (Geotrichum candidum, Candida parapsilosis and Aspergillus niger) to access ster...
Background: Among important fungi associated with foods are Aspergillus spp., Penicillium spp., and Geotrichum spp. In this study, we evaluated antifungal effects of Essential Oils (EOs) of Zataria multiflora, Mentha pulegium, and Mentha piperita. Methods: Antifungal properties of EOs of M. piperita, M. pulegium, and Z. multiflora against Aspergillus spp., Penicillium spp., and Geotrichum ca...
The growth of two pairs co-cultures (Escherichia coli/Geotrichum candidum and Staphylococcus aureus/Geotrichum candidum) with a starter culture lactic acid bacteria was studied in milk at temperatures ranging from 15 °C to 21 °C, related the ripening artisanal cheese. For an inoculum approximately 106 CFU/mL, LAB not only induced early stationary phase E. coli (two isolates BR PS2) S. aureus (i...
