Herein, we fabricated efficient MR imaging probes by incorporating gadolinium oxide nanoparticles (Gd2O3) and gadolinium hybrid nanoparticles (GH) within RBCs. The Gd2O3 and GH encapsulated in the RBCs exhibited high relaxation rates and revealed high sensitivity for T1 MR imaging.

There is an increasing interest for nanomaterials in biomedical applications and in this work, nanoparticles of gadolinium oxide (Gd2O3) have been investigated as a novel contrast agent for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Relaxation properties have been studied in aqueous solutions as well as in cell culture medium and the nanoparticles have been explored as cell labeling agents. The fluoresc...

This paper presents a simple and effective oil-water interfacial self-assembly strategy to fabricate monolayer and bilayer nanofilms of densely packed Gd2O3:0.05X(3+) (X = Eu, Tb) nanorods with characteristic luminescence properties. In this process, Gd2O3:0.05X(3+) (X = Eu, Tb) nanotubes synthesized by a hydrothermal method are dispersed in deionized water; then, a certain amount of n-hexane i...

In this study, Gd2O3 nanocrystal (Gd2O3-NC) memories with nanostructure tunneling layers are fabricated to examine their performance. A higher programming speed for Gd2O3-NC memories with nanostructure tunneling layers is obtained when compared with that of memories using a single tunneling layer. A longer data retention (< 15% charge loss after 104 s) is also observed. This is due to the incre...

Gadolinium oxide (Gd2O3) nanoparticles with very small size and narrow size distribution were synthesized by infiltration of Gd(NO3)3·6H2O as an oxide precursor into the pores of SBA-15 mesoporous silica using a wet-impregnation technique. High resolution transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction show that during the hydrothermal treatment of the precursor at 550 °C, gadolinium oxi...

As a part of our programme to develop nanobioconjugates for the treatment of cancer, we first synthesized extracellular, protein-capped, highly stable and well-dispersed gadolinium oxide (Gd2O3) nanoparticles by using thermophilic fungus Humicola sp. The biodistribution of the nanoparticles in rats was checked by radiolabelling with Tc-99m. Finally, these nanoparticles were bioconjugated with t...

We studied the early stages of Gd2O3 epitaxy on Si(111) in real time by synchrotron-based, high-resolution X-ray diffraction and by reflection high-energy electron diffraction. A comparison between model calculations and the measured X-ray scattering, and the change of reflection high-energy electron diffraction patterns both indicate that the growth begins without forming a three-dimensional c...

We developed biofunctionalized nanoparticles with magnetic properties by immobalizing diethyle-neglycol (DEG) on Gd2O3, and PEGilation of small particulate gadolinium oxide (SPGO) with two me-thoxy-polyethyleneglycol-silane (mPEG-Silane 550 and 2000 Da) using a new supervised polyol route, described recently. In conjunction to the previous study to achieve a high quality synthesis and increase ...

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been widely used to diagnose various diseases. As a positive MRI contrast agent, gadolinium oxide (Gd2O3) is the most promising one due to its paramagnetism and good biocompatibility. However, post-modification on hydrophobic Gd2O3 nanoparticles (NPs) often yield water soluble nanocomposites with some problems: particles aggregation which reduces the number ...
