With the purpose of verify the presence of larvae from the genus Gasterophilus in the Rio Grande do Sul State, a study was undertaken using 395 horses taken to slaughter in the city of Pelotas. The material analysis revealed that 126 animals (31,90%) presented infection, with 100 animals (25,32%) infected by Gasterophilus nasalis, and 47 animals (11,90%) infected by G. intestinalis. These resul...
In 2006, 725 horses aged 8 months to 16 years from different farms from the southern-eastern part of Poland were examined post-mortem for the presence of botfly larvae. One hundred and four horses (14.75%) demonstrated the presence of botfly larvae. An average infection rate was 52 larvae but low rate dominated. Antennae are among the most elaborate sensory organs in adult flies, and they provide rich information for phylogenic studies. The antennae of five out of eight species of Gasterophilus Leach (G. haemorrhoidalis (Linnaeus), G. intestinalis (De Geer), G. nasalis (Linnaeus), G. nigricornis (Loew) and G. pecorum (Fabricius)), were examined using scanning electron microscopy. The general morphology...

In this study, two halophilic bacterial strains isolated from saline habitats in Argentina grew in the presence of gas oil. They were identified as Halomonas spp. and Nesterenkonia sp. by 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing. Chemotaxis towards gas oil was observed in Halomonas spp. by using swimming assays.
