Transmittance of electromagnetic waves with normal incidence in one-dimensional plasma photonic crystals is studied numerically based on the invariant imbedding method. Wave transmittance as a function of wave frequency shows the appearance of forbidden band gaps, which are conspicuous in photonic crystals. We also demonstrate that the small modification of plasma photonic crystal leads to diff...

A dielectric plasmonic photonic crystal for manipulating surface plasmon polariton SPP fields has been designed, fabricated, and tested. The band structure of SPP fields inside the plasmonic photonic crystal has been calculated using the plane wave expansion method and validated by full wave numerical simulations. The fabricated device was characterized using our far-field SPP imaging technique...

– We consider tunneling of electromagnetic waves through a polariton band gap of a 1-D chain of atoms. We analytically demonstrate that a defect embedded in the structure gives rise to the resonance transmission at the frequency of a local polariton state associated with the defect. The optical properties of materials with band gaps in their electromagnetic spectrum have recently attracted a gr...

The design of one-dimensional photonic crystals and the analysis of their optical properties have been performed using band diagram and forbidden gap map methods. It has been shown that the latter method is more useful for practical applications since i it can be applied for any number of periods and ii it is more suitable for the selection of a filling fraction in a wide range of values using ...

Optical interference holography has been proven to be a useful technique in fabricating periodic photonic crystals in which electromagnetic waves are forbidden in certain frequency band gaps. Compared to periodic crystals, quasicrystals, having higher point group symmetry, are more favorable in achieving complete band gaps. In this letter, we propose two seven-beam optical interference configur...

We investigate the electromagnetic propagation in two-dimensional photonic crystals, formed by parallel dielectric cylinders embedded in a uniform medium. The frequency band structure is computed using the standard plane-wave expansion method, while the propagation and scattering of the electromagnetic waves are calculated by the multiple scattering theory. It is shown that within partial band ...

Quantum Dot Photonic Crystals In article number 2000757 by Qiqi Wang, Jiyang Fan, and co-workers, the photonic crystals made of red fluorescent CuInSe2 quantum dots are studied. The frequency-domain electromagnetic calculation reveals that such dot crystal has an optical band gap in extreme-ultraviolet region. frequency modes below above forbidden separately air dielectric modes.

The analogy between electromagnetic wave propagation in multidimensionally periodic structures and electronwave propagation in real crystals has proven to be a fruitful one. Initial efforts were motivated by the prospect of a photonic band gap, a frequency band in three-dimensional dielectric structures in which electromagnetic waves are forbidden irrespective of the propagation direction in sp...

We investigate the propagation of electromagnetic waves in finite photonic band gap structures. We analyze the phenomenon of conduction and forbidden bands and we show that two regimes are to be distinguished with respect to the existence of a strong field near the interfaces. We precise the domain for which an effective medium theory is sounded.

Artificially fabricated structures with periodically modulated parameters such as photonic crystals offer novel ways of controlling the flow of light due to the existence of a range of forbidden frequencies associated with a photonic band gap. It is believed that modulation of the refractive index in all three spatial dimensions is required to open a complete band gap and prevent the propagatio...
