abstract in this presentation, a case of bilateral choroidal folds in patient with diabetic retinopathy was reported. by our knowledge, this case presentation is the first report of choroidal folds in diabetic retinopathy, which bilateral symmetric and horizontal folds arranged in macula. the thick choroid that is developed in diabetics may be a cause of these folds but the source of difference...
Dissolution of many plant viruses is thought to start with swelling of the capsid caused by calcium removal following infection, but no high-resolution structures of swollen capsids exist. Here we have used microsecond all-atom molecular simulations to describe the dynamics of the capsid of satellite tobacco necrosis virus with and without the 92 structural calcium ions. The capsid expanded 2.5...
Chou, S.-L., J.-C. Lin and W.-H. Tsai, Fold principal axis—a new tool for defining the orientations of rotationally symmetric shapes, Pattern Recognition Letters 12 (1991) 109–115. A new type of principal axis, namely, fold principal axis, is introduced in this paper, which can be used to define the orientations of rotationally symmetric shapes. A given shape is first transformed into a new sha...
Ferritin is a protein of 24 subunits which assemble into a shell with 432 point symmetry. It can be denatured reversibly in acidic guanidine hydrochloride, with the formation of poorly populated renaturation intermediates. In order to increase the accumulation of intermediates and to study the mechanism of ferritin renaturation, we analysed variants of the human ferritin H-chain altered at the ...
Adeno-associated virus serotype 9 (AAV9) has enhanced capsid-associated tropism for cardiac muscle and the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier compared to other AAV serotypes. To help identify the structural features facilitating these properties, we have used cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and three-dimensional image reconstruction (cryo-reconstruction) and X-ray crystallography to de...
This paper presents an efficient computational method to identify a local symmetry axis in 3-dimensional viral structures obtained using electron cryomicroscopy. Local symmetry is frequently observed in viral structures. Many virus structures have various types of local symmetry such as 2-fold, 3-fold and 6-fold that exist in certain limited regions on the 3-dimensional structure. Locations of ...
X-ray diffraction data from two forms of yeast RNA polymerase II crystals indicate that the two largest subunits of the polymerase, Rpb1 and Rpb2, may have similar folds, as is suggested by secondary structure predictions. DNA may bind between the two subunits with its 2-fold axis aligned to a pseudo 2-fold axis of the protein.
