A retrospective fleet-sizing problem can be solved via bipartite matching, where a maximum cardinality matching corresponds to the minimum number of vehicles needed cover all trips. We prove min-max theorem on this fleet-size problem: pairwise incompatible trips is equal fleet size needed.

1 We consider the operation of automated mobility-on-demand systems, whereby users share access to a fleet 2 of self-driving vehicles. In these systems, rebalancing, the process by which the supply of empty vehicles is 3 periodically realigned with the demand for transport, is carried out by a fleet operator. Where much of the 4 rebalancing literature skews to the theoretical or simulation-base...

The stability of a fishery system was investigated using two forms of a stochastic computer simulation model that was individually based in terms of the fishing boats. Fish catch was partitioned among boats according to two catch processes: an unranked process in which all boats had equal ability to catch fish and a ranked catch model in which a boat’s ability to catch fish depended on its weal...

Supply vessels provide offshore installations with necessary supplies on periodic basis from an onshore base according to weekly sailing plans. Each plan is built for a certain time horizon to guarantee required level of service to offshore installations at least cost. In a sailing plan several voyages are assigned to each vessel. The execution of sailing plans is affected by stochastic weather...

The offshore wind industry, which aims to reduce the operational costs, usually achieved through learning curves and supply chain improvements, has seen drastic cost increase over the last five years. In order to sustain the competitiveness of the offshore wind industry against other renewable energy sources, the cost of offshore wind needs to come down to today’s onshore cost. This cost reduct...

We describe a constraint programming approach for a supplydelivery problem in the petrochemical industry, in which barges transport liquid material from supplier locations to downstream processing plants. The problem is to design a pickup-and-delivery route for each barge such that given minimum and maximum inventory levels at each location are met for a given fleet size. This optimization prob...

This paper proposes a dynamic optimization–simulation model as a decision support system for one-way carsharing organizations. To reduce the vehicle imbalance in one-way systems, a Vehicle Relocation Optimization model is solved successively in a discrete event simulation. Each event is the arrival of a new user. The model is compared to an a priori benchmark model. Autoshare is chosen as a cas...
