Fibromatosis is an infiltrative proliferation of fibroblastic and myofibroblastic cells with significant risk for local recurrence, but no metastatic potential. It originates mainly from the fascia or aponeuroses of the abdominal wall muscles or from the muscles of the shoulders and pelvic girdles. Fibromatosis is uncommon in the mammary gland and accounts for less than 0.2% of all primary brea...

Various types of tumor can occur in the subungual space, including glomus tumors, subungual exostosis, hemangioma, epidermal cysts, and malignant tumors. While fibromatosis can occur at various sites throughout the body, it is very rarely seen in the toe. Here, we are the first to report a case of superficial fibromatosis mimicking a glomus tumor in the subungual space of the second toe. The pr...

INTRODUCTION Juvenile hyaline fibromatosis and infantile systemic hyalinosis are variants of the same autosomal recessive syndrome; hyaline fibromatosis syndrome, characterized by papulonodular skin lesions, gingival hypertrophy, flexion contractures of joints, osteolytic bone lesions and stunted growth. Infantile systemic hyalinosis is distinguished from juvenile hyaline fibromatosis by its mo...

Fibromatosis is a benign lesion, which originates from proliferating fibroblasts. Although fibromatosis is a benign tumor, it is locally aggressive and invasive. Spinal presentation of fibromatosis is very rare, and case reports are the only source of the clinical knowledge. Herein, we describe the oldest patient having spinal fibromatosis with de novo occurrence and aggressive nature. A 68-yea...

Aggressive fibromatosis (also called desmoid tumor) is a benign, locally invasive, soft tissue tumor composed of cells with mesenchymal characteristics. These tumors are characterized by increased levels of beta-catenin-mediated T-cell factor (TCF)-dependent transcriptional activation. We found that type 1 IFN signaling is activated in human and murine aggressive fibromatosis tumors and that th...

BACKGROUND The term fibromatosis or desmoid tumor refers to a group of benign fibrous growths without metastatic potential but with a significant risk of local recurrence. These lesions typically present infiltrative growth pattern with local invasion of adjacent tissues. This tendency is the reason for a relatively high rate of local recurrence, even after surgical removal. Fibromatosis is a v...

Five cases of familial and idiopathic gingival fibromatosis were reported. One case exhibited peculiar histologic features, which consisted of active growth of the fibroblastic cells. One hundred and ninety-six cases of gingival fibromatosis, whose clinical and/or pathologic findings were known, were collected from foreign literatures. The heterogeneity in gingival fibromatosis was discussed.

Breast fibromatosis, also referred to as desmoid tumor or aggressive fibromatosis, is a very rare, locally aggressive disease that does not metastasize. Bilateral lesions are extremely rare and are found in only 4% of patients with breast fibromatosis. Tumor recurrence following surgery occurs in 18%-29% of patients, most often within the first 2 years after surgery. In this report, we discuss ...

INTRODUCTION Gingiva fibromatosis is a relatively rare condition characterized by diffuse enlargement of the gingiva, which is caused by expansion and accumulation of the connective tissue. OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study was to investigate proliferative and apoptotic biomarker expression in normal gingiva and two forms of gingival fibromatosis. METHODS Archived tissue specimens of h...
