We report the case of a 24-year-old man with a congenital meniscoid articular disc of the triangular fibrocartilage complex with extensor carpi ulnaris tenosynovitis. His young age, the normal articular cartilage, the lack of degenerative changes at the margins of the defect and its bilateral occurrence made this diagnosis likely. A congenital defect of the articular disc of the triangular fibr...

ANATOMY The TFCC is a fibrocartilage-ligament complex which stabilizes the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ), transmits axial load between the carpus and the ulna, and stabilizes the ulnar aspect of the carpus. The TFCC is comprised of the disc proper (articular disc), meniscus homologue, ulnolunate ligament, ulnotriquetral ligament, proximal ligamentous component, volar and dorsal radioulnar liga...

The formation of fibrocartilage at the healing site following a rotator cuff tear repair is a major problem in the field of tendon‑bone healing. The present study aimed to enhance the healing of the tendon‑bone interface following rotator‑cuff tear repair by the interposition of hydroxyapatite (HA) encapsulated with transforming growth factor β1 (TGFβ1). Using an acute rotator cuff repair model...

Mid-substance fibrocartilage develops in bovine deep flexor tendon at the point where the tendon wraps under sesamoid bones of the foot and receives transverse compressive loading during locomotion. Fibrocartilage extends several millimeters into the tendon at this location and the proteoglycan-rich tissue stains intensely with Alcian blue. Using histochemical techniques we demonstrate the pres...

Tendon attaches to bone across a specialized tissue called the enthesis. This tissue modulates the transfer of muscle forces between two materials, i.e. tendon and bone, with vastly different mechanical properties. The enthesis for many tendons consists of a mineralized graded fibrocartilage that develops postnatally, concurrent with epiphyseal mineralization. Although it is well described that...

A technique for arthroscopic all-inside suturing in the wrist is presented. The procedure allows placement of the knot inside the joint without additional incisions. We have applied it in cases of dorsal, foveal and coronal tears of the triangular fibrocartilage. No special instrument is required apart from a Tuohy needle.

OBJECTIVE The application of cell-based therapies in regenerative medicine is hindered by the difficulty of acquiring adequate numbers of competent cells. For the knee meniscus in particular, this may be solved by harvesting tissue from neighboring tendons and ligaments. In this study, we have investigated the potential of cells from tendon and ligament, as compared to meniscus cells, to engine...

This report presents a method of arthroscopic repair of the peripheral triangular fibrocartilage complex tears that replaces traditional suture knots with ultrasonic welding of sutures. This will help eliminate potential causes of ulnar-sided wrist discomfort during the postoperative period.

This report presents a method of arthroscopic repair of the peripheral triangular fibrocartilage tears by using ultrasonic suture welding technique, thus avoiding the need for traditional suture knots. This technique eliminates the potential causes of ulnar-sided wrist discomfort especially during the postoperative period. Twenty-three patients (9 women and 14 men; mean age, 35 years; range, 18...
