The large land area requirement of constructed wetlands (CWs) is a major limitation of its application especially in densely populated and mountainous areas. This review paper provides insights on different strategies applied for the reduction of land area including stack design and intensification of CWs with different aeration methods. The impacts of different aeration methods on the performa...

The relationship between glucose-induced insulin secretion and metabolism of inositol phospholipid was investigated by means of an islet perifusion method and direct measuring of inositol phosphates after sonicating the islets. The results showed that the time course of inositol phospholipid breakdown is coincident with the first phase of glucose-induced insulin secretion. Analysis of the efflu...

Manure, an animal waste product with many negative economic and environmental issues, can today be converted using anaerobic digestion technology into a number of commercial products ranging from fertilizer, compost, animal bedding, and plant bedding. A number of new uses are now being explored such as bioenergy (both electrical and biofuel) and a lignocellulose-rich potential feedstock for eng...

The preparation conditions of complex fire-retardant (FR) agents containing boron compounds (BF, X1), nitrogen-phosphorus compounds (NPF, X2), silicon compounds (SF, X3), and halogen compounds (HF, X4) for ultra-low density fiberboard (ULDF) were optimized using a response surface methodology. The effects and interactions of X1, X2, X3, and X4 on the fire properties of ULDF were investigated. A...

In this study wheat straw was taken from Ankara province. In order to produce dry process MDF, urea formaldehyde resin was used at the ratio of 8 %, 10 % and 12 %, 1 % ammonium chloride was used as hardening agent on the basis of dry fiber weight. On the other hand, 5, 6 and 7 min. pressing times were applied. Alcohol benzene, cold water, hot water and 1 % NaOH solubility of wheat straw were 5....

igh-temperature corrosion/oxidation has been shown to be a major contributor to the wear of tungsten carbide when machining medium density fiberboard (MDF) (Stewart 1992). Consequently, a change in the properties of the tool material to resist wear from the adverse wood machining environment needs to be investigated. A deep cryogenic treatment shows promise as a tool material treatment for incr...

Each year, about 76 million people contract a food borne illness in the United States; about 325,000 require hospitalization; and about 5,000 die. Tracking goods throughout the food supply chain increases the efficiency of recall of tainted goods and thus will help reducing food borne illness. Passive UHF RFID has been widely accepted to be a technology capable of increasing supply chain effici...

Pneumonitis due to hypersensitivity to wood fiber is mainly associated with the fungus that colonizes it. We present the case of a male affected with hypersensitivity pneumonitis in which the agent implicated was medium-density fiberboard, an engineered product whose main component is pine wood fiber. The causal agent was identified by means of a specific bronchial provocation test.

the medium density fiberboard (mdf) market demand was investigated during the years from 2004 to 2013 in iran. estimation of mdf demand was made by exponential smoothing method by the year 2018. the insight into the level of demand that might exist by the year 2013 was obtained by reviewing the production, import, export, and consumption of mdf on the iran. the results show that the consumption...

In this paper we present a numerical solution for the mathematical modeling of the hot-pressing process applied to medium density fiberboard. We have started our development from the paper of Carvalho & Costa [2] and the model presented by Humphrey in his PhD. thesis [4] with some modifications and extensions in order to take into account mainly the convective effects on the phase change term a...
