Fractionation of methylene chloride extracts of the resin of Ferula vesceritensis and F. sinaica afforded three sesquiterpene coumarins and a glucose derivative. One of them was a sesquiterpene with a rare carbon skeleton. The structures of these compounds were determined by extensive NMR studies, including DEPT, COSY, NOE, HMQC, and HMBC.
AIM The present study was performed to investigate acute and subchronic oral toxicity of Ferula assa-foetida gum (28 days) in Sprague Dawley rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS Acute oral administration of F. assa-foetida was done as a single bolus dose up to 5 g/kg in mice and subchronic toxicity study for 28 days was done by oral administration at doses of 0 (control) and 250 mg/kg in Sprague Dawle...
Asafoetida (Ferula assa-foetida L.) is one of the endemic medicinal plants in Iran. Analysis karyomorphology and 2Cx DNA measurements (monoploid genome size) 18 Iranian Ferula populations were performed. The vitro embryo-derived root tips examined for karyological studies, via technique squash stain with 2% (w/v) aceto-orcein. Seeds samples leaves Solanum lycopersicum as standard reference (2C ...
Xinjiang, a region of high salinity and drought, is a host to many arid and semi-arid plants. Many of these plants including Ferula spp. have indigenous pharmaceutical histories. As many of the medicinal properties of plants are in tandem with the associated microorganisms residing within the plant tissues, it is advisable to explore the endophytic potential of such plants. In the present study...
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of different levels of Ferulaassa-foetida gum powder and antibiotic on performance, intestine morphology and microbial population in broiler chicks. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design with 240 chicks in 5 treatments, 4 replicates and 12 chicks per replicate. Treatments included: 1) basal diet without additives...
ferula foetida (bunge) regel. is one of the most widespread and important ferula species with nutritional and medicinal applications. some phytochemicals with helpful cardiovascular effects have been isolated from ferula species. the present study was designed to evaluate the effects of hydroalcoholic extract of the stems of f. foetida in dexamethasone (dex)-induced hypertension in rats. hypert...
Objective- Cutaneous wound healing is an essential physiological process consisting of the collaboration of many cell strains and their products. Initiation of new management for treatment of wound infections caused by multidrug resistant Staphylococcus aureus is required. The aim of the present study was to assess wound healing activity of Ferula assa-foetida...
BACKGROUND In Iranian folk medicine, several plants are used for treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, such as diarrhea and spasm. One of these herbal medications are the essential oil yielded from seeds of Ferula assa-foetida L. and an oleo-gum-resin known as asafetida, which is exudated from its root. F. assa-foetida grows wildly in south and central mountains of Iran. AIM In this study,...
The vastness of the Ferula assa-foetida L. habitats in Kerman province is significantly high in comparison to other provinces. For the local people therefor, it is important to improve its production and marketing as a natural resource economy source. In this study randomly 19 experienced experts in the field of medicinal plants of Ferula assa-foetida L. were questioned. After conducting face-t...
From the dichloromethane extract of aerial parts of Ferula vesceritensis (Apiaceae), 11 sesquiterpene derivatives were isolated. Among them five were compounds designated as 10-hydroxylancerodiol-6-anisate, 2,10-diacetyl-8-hydroxyferutriol-6-anisate, 10-hydroxylancerodiol-6-benzoate, vesceritenone and epoxy-vesceritenol. The six known compounds were identified as feselol, farnesiferol A, lapido...
