Recent epidemiological studies have demonstrated that radiographic features specific to femoroacetabular impingement appear far more frequently in healthy and asymptomatic cohorts than previously anticipated. It remains unclear how incidental findings should be interpreted clinically. In addition, several authors have suggested that a decreased range of motion is part of the clinical presentati...

Recent developments in hip arthroscopy techniques and technology have made it possible in many cases to avoid open surgical technique for treating pincer-type and cam-type femoroacetabular impingement and rather treating it arthroscopically. Early reports suggest favorable results using arthroscopic techniques. The frequency of complications reported for hip arthroscopy for all indications is g...

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES As a result of reading this article, physicians should be able to: 1. Identify the etiology of femoroacetabular impingement. 2. Assess femoroacetabular impingement on physical examination. 3. Recognize femoroacetabular impingement on imaging studies. 4. Discuss modern techniques to effectively treat femoroacetabular impingement, both open and arthroscopic. Femoroacetabula...

BACKGROUND Coxa profunda is commonly viewed as a radiographic parameter that is indicative of pincer-type femoroacetabular impingement, and this finding can impact diagnostic and surgical decision-making. Validation of coxa profunda as a measure of pincer-type femoroacetabular impingement has not been rigorously analyzed. Our hypothesis was that coxa profunda is a very common radiographic findi...

BACKGROUND Significant controversy exists regarding the causes of premature, natural hip-joint failure. Identification of these causes may guide future investigations targeting prevention of this disorder. The aims of this study were to: (1) determine and characterize structural abnormalities associated with premature, natural hip-joint failure, and (2) analyze disease progression in the contra...

Here we describe a 28-year-old man with a history of right hip pain for the past 11 years and ankylosing spondylitis for the past 6 months. Imaging studies showed an exostosis in the femoral neck causing femoroacetabular impingement. The patient was diagnosed with coxarthrosis. This case report suggests that femoroacetabular impingement may accelerate the degenerative process in the hip joint.

INTRODUCTION Surgical treatment is the treatment of choice in patients with symptoms and radiological signs of femoroacetabular impingement. OBJECTIVE Our experience and early results of surgical treatment of patients with signs of femoroacetabular impingement and early hip osteoarthritis are reported. METHODS The results of treatment of 21 patients aged 23-54 years with different types of ...

BACKGROUND We wanted to investigate acetabular labral tears and their correlation with femoroacetabular impingement in patients with sports injury. METHODS Among 111 patients who were diagnosed with the acetabular labral tears after arthroscopic treatment from January 2004 to December 2007, we selected 41 patients with sports injury. There were 12 cases of Taekwondo injury, 5 of golf injury, ...

Femoroacetabular impingement is recognised as being a cause of labral tears and chondral damage. We report a series of five patients who presented with persistent pain in the hip after arthroscopy for isolated labral debridement. All five had a bony abnormality consistent with cam-type femoroacetabular impingement. They had a further operation to correct the abnormality by chondro-osteoplasty o...
