In this study, an impact behavior of spherical striker on a double-walled carbon nanotube (DWCNT) is presented based on a three degree of freedom spring-mass model and the finite element (FE) simulations. The semi-analytical solution of the transverse impact of a striker on a DWCNT is investigated by using the elasticity nonlocal theory of Euler-Bernoulli (EBT) and Timoshenko (TBT) nanobeams. T...

We evaluated the inducibility of nitrate-dependent Fe(II)-EDTA oxidation (NDFO) in non-growth, chloramphenicol-amended, resting-cell suspensions of Dechloromonas sp. strain UWNR4 and Acidovorax sp. strain 2AN. Cells previously incubated with Fe(II)-EDTA oxidized ca. 6-fold more Fe(II)-EDTA than cells previously incubated with Fe(III)-EDTA. This is the first report of induction of NDFO by Fe(II).

Finite element (FE) modeling and multibody dynamics have traditionally been applied separately to the domains of tissue mechanics and musculoskeletal movements, respectively. Simultaneous simulation of both domains is needed when interactions between tissue and movement are of interest, but this has remained largely impractical due to the high computational cost. Here we present a method for th...

As the area of Functional Encryption (FE) has grown in importance, the landscape of its security definitions has become increasingly cluttered. Currently prevalent definitions are largely restricted to data privacy, and are broadly categorized as indistinguishability (IND) style or simulation (SIM) style, where the former are known to be insufficient and the latter are known to be unachievable ...

Simulation based on the finite-element (FE) method plays an important role in the investigation of intra-body communication (IBC). In this paper, a finite-element model of the whole body model used for the IBC simulation is proposed and verified, while the FE simulation of the galvanic coupling IBC with different signal transmission paths has been achieved. Firstly, a novel finite-element metho...

A finite element (FE)-based simulation model for photoacoustic (PA) has been developed incorporating light propagation, PA signal generation, and sound wave propagation in soft tissues using a commercial FE simulation package, COMSOL Multiphysics. The developed simulation model is evaluated by comparing with other known simulation models such as Monte Carlo method and heat-pressure model. In th...

Finite Element (FE) models provide a rich framework to simulate dynamic biological systems, with applications ranging from hearing to cardiovascular research. With the growing complexity and sophistication of FE bio-simulation models (e.g. multi-scale and multi-domain models), the effort associated with the creation and analysis of a FE model can grow unmanageable. This work investigates the ro...

The use of Finite Element (FE) simulation software to adequately predict the outcome of sheet metal forming processes is crucial to enhancing the efficiency and lowering the development time of such processes, whilst reducing costs involved in trial-and-error prototyping. Recent focus on the substitution of steel components with aluminum alloy alternatives in the automotive and aerospace sector...

Fe-rich Fe-B amorphous metals exhibit approximately collinear magnetic structure. When a certain amount of Fe atoms are replaced with Mn, the magnetic structure of the alloys is found to become non-collinear. We performed electronic structure calculations using the locally selfconsistent multiple scattering (LSMS) method for supercell samples generated by ab initio molecular dynamics simulation...
