Nanoparticles of Fe(3)O(4) were synthesized by hydrolysis in an aqueous solution containing ferrous and ferric salts at various ratios with 1,6-hexanediamine as a base. It was found that the ferrous to ferric ratio influences the reaction mechanism for the formation of Fe(3)O(4). When the ratio of ferrous to ferric ions was increased, the formation of large hydroxide particles as a precursor of...

A means for synthesizing paramagnetic nanoparticles composed of an Au–Fe alloy is described using pulsed laser deposition (PLD) of the alloy into a mesoporous alumina membrane template. Nanoparticles 46 ± 13 nm in diameter and composed of a 17% Fe alloy have been created by depositing a 35% Fe alloy into a template with 65 nm diameter pores. These paramagnetic nanoparticles had a saturation mag...

Carboxylated SiO2-coated α-Fe nanoparticles have been successfully prepared via CaH2-mediated reduction of SiO2-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles followed by surface carboxylation. These α-Fe-based nanoparticles, which are characterized by ease of coating with additional functional groups, a large magnetization of 154 emu per g-Fe, enhanced corrosion resistivity, excellent aqueous dispersibility, and ...

Effect of Fe and Au/Fe nanoparticles on the growth of UH-biosurfactant producing bacteria-Serratia, and the biosurfactant production was studied. Results showed that at a concentration of 1 mg/L of Fe nanoparticle, Serratia colony number increased by 57%, and biosurfactant production increase by 63%. Test result showed that Fe nanoparticles in the range of 1~10 mg/L had a positive impact on the...

A facile method is developed to prepare monodisperse silver nanoparticles in a much enhanced yield by adding a trace amount of Fe(3+) ions into the reaction of AgNO(3) with oleic acid and oleylamine. We propose that Fe(2+) ions speed up the nucleation and growth of silver nanoparticles due to the electron-transfer between Ag(+) and Fe(2+), in which Fe(2+) is from Fe(3+) reduced by oleylamine.

Magnetic Fe(3)O(4) particle aggregates were prepared by cross-linking Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles bearing surface carbonyl groups with poly-L-lysine. Upon further coupling with antiparaoxon methyl polyclonal antibody, the resultant particle aggregate-based probes were used in a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay (LFIA) of pesticide residue of paraoxon methyl. The results were compared with th...
