The manner in which the extreme modes of droplet evaporation (namely, the constant contact radius and the constant contact angle modes) become indistinguishable on strongly hydrophobic substrates is described. Simple asymptotic expressions are obtained which provide good approximations to the evolutions of the contact radius, the contact angle, and the volume of droplets evaporating in the extr...

Wide used technique of patterning surfaces with solid particles utilizes the evaporation of colloidal droplets from a substrate. In particular, evaporation of liquid samples is a key problem in the development of microarray technology (including labs-on-a chip), especially in the case of open reactors [1]. A plenty of works are devoted to the evaporation of the sessile droplets [2–5]. One assum...

We consider a massless, minimally coupled scalar field propagating through the geometry of a black 3-brane in an asymptotically AdS5×S space. The wave equation for modes traveling purely in the holographic direction reduces to a Heun equation and the corresponding greybody factor is obtained numerically. Approximations valid in the lowand high-frequency regimes are also obtained analytically. T...

Evaporation of a sessile droplet is a complex, nonequilibrium phenomenon. Although evaporating droplets upon superhydrophobic surfaces have been known to exhibit distinctive evaporation modes such as a constant contact line (CCL), a constant contact angle (CCA), or both, our fundamental understanding of the effects of surface roughness on the wetting transition remains elusive. We show that the...

this study attempted to explore if teaching english collocations through two different modes of awareness-raising and input flooding has any possible differential effect on immediate retention as well as retention in a delayed assessment. it also compared the possible differential effect of teaching english collocations implicitly and explicitly on actively using the items in writing. m...

We investigate dynamical instability of a two-dimensional quantum black hole model considered by Lowe in his study of Hawking evaporation. The model is supposed to express a black hole in equilibrium with a bath of Hawking radiation. It turns out that the model has at least one instability modes for a wide range of parameters, and thus it is unstable.

Background Compared with other general energy crops, microalgae are more compatible with desert conditions. In addition, microalgae cultivated in desert regions can be used to develop biodiesel. Therefore, screening oil-rich microalgae, and researching the algae growth, CO2 fixation and oil yield in desert areas not only effectively utilize the idle desertification lands and other resources, bu...

We demonstrate real-time quantitative phase imaging as a new optical approach for measuring the evaporation dynamics of sessile microdroplets. Quantitative phase images of various droplets were captured during evaporation. The images enabled us to generate time-resolved three-dimensional topographic profiles of droplet shape with nanometer accuracy and, without any assumptions about droplet geo...

Due to the field enhancement effect of the hollow-core metal-cladded optical waveguide chip, massive nanoparticles in a solvent are effectively trapped via exciting ultrahigh order modes. A concentric ring structure of the trapped nanoparticles is obtained since the excited modes are omnidirectional at small incident angle. During the process of solvent evaporation, the nanoparticles remain wel...
