Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is an emerging chronic esophageal disease. Despite the increasing diagnosis of EoE globally, the causes of EoE and other esophageal eosinophilic disorders are not clearly understood. EoE pathology includes accumulation of inflammatory cells (e.g., eosinophils, mast cells), characteristic endoscopic features (e.g., furrows, the formation of fine concentric mucosal ...

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIM The incidence of stricture formation caused by endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for widespread lesions is high, and stricture formation can reduce quality of life. We evaluated the prophylactic efficacy of hybrid therapy using a locoregional steroid injection and polyglycolic acid (PGA) sheets with fibrin glue to prevent stricture formation after esophageal ESD in...

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS  Fixation of an esophageal self-expandable metal stent (SEMS) with an over-the-scope-clip (OTSC) system for a benign stricture to prevent migration has been reported. However, the efficacy of SEMS fixation with an OTSC for malignant esophageal stricture remains unclear. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the feasibility of SEMS fixation with an OTSC fo...

We report a case of a 51-year-old woman with an esophageal lichen planus (ELP) stricture refractory to medical therapy and endoscopic stricture dilation. A multidisciplinary decision was made to place an esophageal fully covered metal stent. The stent was removed 6 weeks later and the patient is doing well on 3-month follow up. We show that a removable esophageal stent is an option after standa...

Esophageal stricture is a well-described complication following tracheoesophageal fistula repair. Herein, we report two patients who had persistent esophageal strictures after several months of repeat balloon dilatations. Each patient was treated with a single application of topical mitomycin C in addition to esophageal dilatation, which resulted in complete resolution of the stricture.

Esophageal dilatation in dysphagic patients with benign strictures is usually considered successful if the patients' dysphagia is alleviated. However, the relation between dysphagia and the diameter of a stricture is not well understood. Moreover, the dysphagia may also be caused by an underlying esophageal motor disorder. In order to compare symptoms and objective measurements of esophageal st...

BACKGROUND The development of esophageal stricture is not an uncommon side effect of radiation and chemotherapy for neck and thoracic malignancies. Depending on the study, it may occur anywhere from 2-3 weeks to 4-8 months after therapy. However, chronic late presentations of post-treatment stricture are highly atypical events. CASE PRESENTATION The authors describe herein an unusual case of ...
