Endocervical samples were obtained from 435 females for Chlamydia detection by using both a Dacron swab and a cytobrush. Positive results were obtained from 35 swabs and 34 cytobrush specimens. All specimens positive with the cytobrush were detected also with swab samples. The cytobrush and Dacron swab appear to be comparable for the detection of endocervical infections with Chlamydia trachomatis.

The fully automated COBAS AMPLICOR CT/NG test for the detection of Chlamydia trachomatis was evaluated in a multicenter trial. Test performance was evaluated for 2,014 endocervical swab and 1,278 urine specimens obtained from women and for 373 urethral swab and 254 urine specimens obtained from men. Culture served as the reference test. Culture-negative, COBAS AMPLICOR-positive specimens that t...

The fully automated COBAS AMPLICOR CT/NG and semiautomated AMPLICOR CT/NG tests were evaluated in a multicenter trial for their ability to detect Neisseria gonorrhoeae infections. Test performance compared to that of culturing was evaluated for 2,192 matched endocervical swab and urine specimens obtained from women and for 1, 981 matched urethral swab and urine specimens obtained from men. Cult...

The accuracy of conization for the prediction of radical hysterectomy (RH) pathological variables in patients with stage Ia2 to Ib1 (≤2 cm) cervical cancer was retrospectively evaluated in the present study. Endocervical or deep resection margin (RM) involvement in the conization specimens was found to be independently associated with residual disease in the hysterectomy specimens (P < 0.001, =...

The objective of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the Roche multiplex AMPLICOR Chlamydia trachomatis/Neisseria gonorrhoeae PCR test for the detection of Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection in female urine specimens and wet and dry endocervical swabs. Endocervical swabs and urine specimens were collected from 342 female sex workers from Cotonou, Benin, and were tested using t...

An amplification polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for the direct detection of Chlamydia trachomatis in urethral and endocervical swab specimens from symptomatic and asymptomatic women and men were compared to standard culture technique. During 6 months, 300 endocervical swab specimens from 205 asymptomatic women (64.4%) and 95 symptomatic women (31.6%), and 187 urethral swab specime...

A modified sanitary napkin was compared with endocervical swab and urine specimens for the detection of urogenital Chlamydia trachomatis infection. Endocervical swabs and/or first-catch urine were collected from 510 women at medical or community settings in Quebec City. Participants were also asked to wear a modified sanitary napkin (Ezy-Detek) during 4 consecutive hours and to bring it back to...

The Abbott LCx Neisseria gonorrhoeae assay (Abbott Laboratories, Abbott Park, Ill.) uses a ligase chain reaction (LCR) amplification in the LCx probe system for detection of a specific nucleotide sequence in the Opa-encoding gene of N. gonorrhoeae. We evaluated the LCx assay in a comparison with conventional culture employing modified Thayer-Martin media for the detection of N. gonorrhoeae from...

The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence and distribution of Chlamydia trachomatisgenotypes in Shiraz, Iran. Two hundred twelve cervical swab samples were collected from women attendingShahid Motahari Polyclinic in Shiraz, Iran. The endocervical specimens were screened for C. trachomatis byplasmid PCR. Genotyping was performed in C. trachomatis-positive samples by nested PCR ...
