We study the influence of the size and nanocrystallinity of dodecanethiol-coated gold nanocrystals (NCs) on the stiffness of 3D self-assembled NC superlattices (called supracrystals). Using single domain and polycrystalline NCs as building blocks for supracrystals, it is shown that the stiffness of supracrystals can be tuned upon change in relative amounts of single and polycrystalline NCs.

A novel synthesis method for the preparation of Cu2ZnSnS4 nanocrystals is presented using a liquid precursor of tin, namely tin(II) 2-ethylhexanoate, which yields small and nearly monodisperse NCs either in the kesterite or in the wurtzite phase depending on the sulfur source (elemental sulfur in oleylamine vs. dodecanethiol).

We report a facile chemical route for the synthesis of monodisperse nanocrystals of various metal sulfides (PbS, Cu(2)S, and Ag(2)S) and their assemblies into nanocrystal superlattices (NCSs); the sulfides NCSs were precipitated by adding ethanol to nanocrystal colloids, which were obtained directly by a reaction between metal thiolate and thioacetamide in a pure dodecanethiol solvent.

The morphology of the produced Ag nanoparticle is controlled successfully by UV irradiating the reaction solution of AgAc/ethyl alcohol/1-octadeconal/1-dodecanethiol. With use of a novel solution such as soft template, Ag nanorods with different sizes and different ratios of length to diameter can be obtained by adjusting the concentrations of the solution compositions.
Well-defined Ag(5) and Ag(6) dodecanethiol/tetrabutyl ammonium-protected clusters were prepared by a one-pot electrochemical method. Ag clusters show bright and photostable emissions. The presence of a dual capping renders the silver clusters soluble in both organic and aqueous solvents.
