Manual stratigraphic interpretation of modern 3-D seismic images is extremely timeconsuming. We present a method based on nonstationary predictive signal/noise separation for automatically recognizing the occurence of a predefined pattern in seismic images. The method is tested on 2-D synthetic and real seismic images, and is shown to reliably detect the presence of unconformities in both.

Summary In this study, the seismic performance of hexagrid structures which are composed of horizontal and vertical hexagrid by using a transitional story, has been investigated. To this end, 10 models of 50-story hexagrid structures were designed. 9 models with horizontal hexagrid cells which transited to vertical cells using a transitional story, and a model of completely horizontal hexagrid ...

We pursue accurate numerical techniques to obtain theoretical seismic waves for realistic three dimensional (3-D) Earth models using Spectral-Element Method. We have tried to solve forward problem, that is, to calculate synthetic seismic waveform for fully 3-D Earth model. We introduce a heterogeneous region at Earth's core-mantle boundary by combining a small, strongly anomalous region to a la...

The quality of the migration/inversion in seismic re ̄ection is directly related to the quality of the velocity macro model. We present here an extension of the differential semblance optimization method (DSO) for 2-D velocity ®eld estimation. DSO evaluates via local measurements (horizontal derivatives) how ̄at events in common-image gathers are. Its major advantage with respect to the usual cos...

Abstract The ray series method may be generalized using a ray centered coordinate system for general 3D-heterogeneous media. This method is useful for Amplitude Versus Offset (AVO) seismic modeling, seismic analysis, interpretational purposes, and comparison with seismic field observations. For each central ray (constant ray parameter), the kinematic (the eikonal) and dynamic ray tracing system ...

this paper proposes a method for the prediction of pore size values in hydrocarbon reservoirs using 3d seismic data. to this end, an actual carbonate oil field in the south-western part ofiranwas selected. taking real geological conditions into account, different models of reservoir were constructed for a range of viable pore size values.  seismic surveying was performed next on these models. f...

Reliable seismic vulnerability analysis is generally based on time-domain simulations of structural responses. The seismic load is then modelled by a stochastic process, representing seismic ground motion. For this purpose, the analyst can use recorded accelerograms or work with synthetically generated ones. When performing advanced probabilistic analyses, synthetic accelerograms are often used...

It is important for interpretation of the seismic responses of a sedimentary basin to distinguish S and surface waves on strong-motion seismograms. A vertical array analysis method that decomposes S and surface waves from a set of surface and borehole seismic records (horizontal components) is proposed. Each of horizontal components of the array records assumed to consist of S wave and only one...

To first order, seismic data provides the geologist and the geophysicist with information on the geometrical relationships between subsurface lithologic boundaries. Generally, this spatial information is used to construct conceptual geologic and process models with which to explain the origins of stratigraphic features. From such models we infer lithologic content. Various methods (e.g. AVO, Co...

Seismic imaging for RVSP or drill-bit data recorded for deviated or horizontal wells is a challenging task. Conventional filtering methods such as dip-filtering will fail to separate the primary (upgoing) and multiple (downgoing) reflections because the drill path generates primary and multiple reflections with similar moveout and the same polarity. In this paper, I present a new migration meth...
