A new version of the Monte Carlo event generator Dpmjet is presented. It is a code system based on the Dual Parton Model and unifies all features of the Dtunuc-2, Dpmjet-II and Phojet1.12 event generators. Dpmjet-III allows the simulation of hadron-hadron, hadron-nucleus, nucleus-nucleus, photon-hadron, photonphoton and photon-nucleus interactions from a few GeV up to the highest cosmic ray ene...
A new striking feature of hadron production in nuclear collisions is the large stopping of the participating nucleons in hadron–nucleus and nucleus–nucleus collisions. This enhanced baryon stopping can be understood introducing new diquark breaking mechanisms in multistring models of hadron production. Here we show, that similar diquark breaking mechanisms occur at high energy even in hadron–ha...
Antideuteron-nucleus absorptive cross sections for intermediate to high energies are calculated using an ion-ion optical model. Good agreement with experiment (within 15 percent) is obtained in this same model for mean p-nucleus cross sections at laboratory energies up to 15 GeV. We describe a technique for estimating antinucleus-nucleus cross sections from N mean N data and suggest that furt...
A cosmic ray tracking telescope has been made for the measurement of cosmic rays from different directions, especially those received from the sun direction. Our observations by the telescope shows a noticeable deficiency in the detected number of cosmic rays entering the telescope when its axis was pointing to the sun compared to that entering the telescope with no sun in its field of view. Th...
We present the results of a new estimation of the photodisintegration and propagation of ultrahigh energy cosmic-ray (UHCR) nuclei in intergalactic space. The critical interactions for energy loss and photodisintegration of UHCR nuclei occur with photons of the infrared background radiation (IBR). We have reexamined this problem making use of a new determination of the IBR based on empirical da...
cosmic rays (cr) travel at speeds essentially indistinguishable from the speed of light. however whilst travelling through magnetic fields, both regular and turbulent, they are delayed behind the light since they are usually charged particles and their paths are not linear. those delays can be so long that they are an impediment to correctly identifying sources which may be variable in time. fu...
Modern cosmic ray transport codes, that are capable of use for a variety of applications, need to include all significant atomic, nuclear and particle reactions at a variety of energies. Lepton pair production from nucleus-nucleus collisions has not been included in transport codes to date. Using the methods of Baur, Bertulani and Baron, the present paper provides estimates of electron-positron...
A formation zone intranuclear cascade model is applied to peripheral nucleus-nucleus collisions. We calculate the excitation energies of prefragments, treat their further nuclear disintegration and introduce a model for nuclear deexcitation by photon emission. Results are compared to data on target associated particle production in nucleus-nucleus collisions. We discuss implications of these mo...
In a large class of string and string inspired models the string excitation and black hole pictures invoked as an explanation of trans-GZK cosmic ray events are equivalent. Single particle inclusive distributions are asymptotically thermal at the Hagedorn temperature. The hadron multiplicities are reminiscent of multiplicities in heavy nucleus initiated interactions.
