In this note we study two notions of controllability, called respectively radial controllability and directional controllability. They are both weakened versions of the classical notion of global controllability. We prove that for families of linear vector fields, the two notions are actually equivalent. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. In this paper, several necessary and sufficient graphical conditions are derived for the controllability of multi-agent systems by taking advantage of the proposed concept of controllability destructive nodes. A key step of arriving at this result is the establishment of a relationship between topology structures of the controllability destructive nodes and a specific eigenvector of the Laplaci...

In this paper we study controllability properties of linear degenerate parabolic equations. Due to degeneracy, classical null controllability results do not hold in general. Thus we investigate results of 'regional null controllability', showing that we can drive the solution to rest at time T on a subset of the space domain, contained in the set where the equation is nondegenerate. keywords: l...

Complete controllability is a fundamental issue in the field of control of quantum systems, not least because of its implications for dynamical realizability of the kinematical bounds on the optimization of observables. In this paper we investigate the question of complete controllability for finite-level quantum systems subject to a single control field, for which the interaction is of dipole ...

In this paper, we consider the question of controllability of a class of linear and semilinear evolution equations on Hilbert space with measures as controls. We present necessary and sufficient conditions for weak and exact (strong) controllability of a linear system. Using this result we prove that exact controllability of the linear system implies exact controllability of a perturbed semilin...

Finite-dimensional stationary dynamic control systems described by linear stochastic ordinary differential state equations with multiple point delays in control are considered. Using the notation, theorems and methods used for deterministic controllability problems for linear dynamic systems with delays in control as well as necessary and sufficient conditions for various kinds of stochastic re...

Precise definitions for different degrees of controllability for quantum systems are given, and necessary and sufficient conditions for each type of controllability are discussed. The results are applied to determine the degree of controllability for various atomic systems with degenerate energy levels and transition frequencies. Degrees of controllability for quantum systems and application to...

Simple Temporal Networks with Uncertainty provide a useful framework for modeling temporal constraints and, importantly, for modeling actions with uncertain durations. To determine whether we can construct a schedule for a given network, we typically consider one of two types of controllability: dynamic or strong. These controllability checks have strict conditions on how uncertainty is resolve...

We give the definitions of exact and approximate controllability for linear and nonlinear Schrödinger equations, review fundamental criteria for controllability and revisit a classical “No–go” result for evolution equations due to Ball, Marsden and Slemrod. In Section 2 we prove corresponding results on non– controllability for the linear Schrödinger equation and distributed additive control, a...

In process design practice the plant piping and instrumentation diagram evolves iteratively using mainly experience and process reasoning to address questions related to plant controllability. It would be desirable to be able to address such questions more quantitatively at di erent abstraction levels during process design such that controllability evaluation can be integrated into the design p...
