It is known that connectedness is one of the important notions in topology. In this paper, a new notion of connectedness is introduced in L-topological spaces, which is called PS-connectedness. It contains some nice properties. Especially, the famous K. Fan’s Theorem holds for PS-connectedness in L-topological spaces.

We use the Shokurov connectedness principle and the Corti inequality to prove the birational superrigidity of a nodal hypersurface in P 5 of degree 5. We assume that all varieties are projective, normal and defined over C.

This paper expands the role of the new field of computational topology by surveying methods for incorporating connectedness in shape modeling. Two geometric representations in particular, recurrent models and implicit surfaces, can (often unpredictably) become connected or disconnected based on typical changes in modeling parameters. Two methodologies for controlling connectedness are identifie...

The tricorn is the connectedness locus in the space of antiholomorphic quadratic polynomials z 7! z2 + c. We prove that the tricorn is not locally connected and not even pathwise connected, confirming an observation of John Milnor from 1992. We extend this discussion more generally for antiholomorphic unicritical polynomials of degrees d 2 and their connectedness loci, known as multicorns.

Background: The exponential growth of smartphones has afforded many users with ubiquitous access to socialization as seen in the various mobile apps used to communicate and connect with others. The present study employed mixed-method approaches to analyse the impact of phubbing on social connectedness among adolescents in Malaysia. Methods:</stron...

We study continua on which each nonconstant open mapping is light. W. Makuchowski asked if this property is preserved under atomic mappings. It is known that this is true under an additional assumption of arcwise connectedness of the domain continuum. We show that in general this is not true.

We consider the set Ω2 of double zeros in (0, 1) for power series with coefficients in {−1, 0, 1}. We prove that Ω2 is disconnected, and estimate minΩ2 with high accuracy. We also show that [2 − η, 1) ⊂ Ω2 for some small, but explicit η > 0 (this was only known for η = 0). These results have applications in the study of infinite Bernoulli convolutions and connectedness properties of self-affine...

Genetic connectedness refers to a measure of genetic relatedness across management units (e.g., herds and flocks). With the presence of high genetic connectedness in management units, best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP) is known to provide reliable comparisons between estimated genetic values. Genetic connectedness has been studied for pedigree-based BLUP; however, relatively little attentio...

The impact of types of social connectedness-family, other adult, and school-on suicide ideation and attempts among all youth, the relative impact of each type, and effect modification by sexual orientation was assessed. Data were from the 2007-2009 Milwaukee Youth Risk Behavior Surveys. Multivariable logistic regression analyses calculated the risk of suicide ideation and attempts by sexual ori...
