THE LEAVES EXTRACTS OF TWO INDIGENOUS PLANTS OF ETHIOPIA: Clematis longicauda steud ex A. Rich. and Clematis burgensis Engl. are used in Southwestern Ethiopia to treat otorrhoea and eczema. Antimicrobial activity and MIC of crude extracts were determined by disk diffusion and broth dilution. Phytochemical screening was performed on the extracts. The methanol and petroleum ether extracts of both...
A new flavone C-glycoside, isovitexin 6''-O-E-p-coumarate (1) and two known flavonoid glycosides--quercetin 3-O-beta-D-glucuronopyranoside (2) and isoorientin (3)--were isolated from an ethanol extract of aerial parts of Clematis rehderiana. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods. The antioxidant effects of the two flavone C-glycosides were evaluated by both the MTT and DPPH ...
A new coumarin, 7-hydroxy-4,6-dimethoxy-5-methylcoumarin (1), was isolated from the aerial parts of Clematis delavayi var. spinescens together with 17 known compounds. Their structures were identified by extensive spectral analysis, especially 2D NMR techniques. Antiangiogenic effects of all compounds were evaluated using a zebrafish model.
In this survey, the chromosome counts of eight Nepeta L. species were investigated and karyotypic diversity among these was studied. The examined belong to N. cephalotes Boiss. group, namely eremokosmos Rech.f., gloeocephala Rech. f., Boiss., pungens (Bunge) Benth., ispahanica mahanensis Jamzad & Simonds, hormozganica denudata Benth. collected from different habitats in Iran. ploidy levels,...
Background & Aim: Clematis is an ornamental and medicinal plant that is primarily planted as an ornamental plant. Clematis orientalis is native to Asia and Central Europe, used as an antiseptic and refrigerant. The propagation of Clematis is very important. In this study, the effects of plant growth regulators on rooting and growth of the plants in vitro cult...
A comparative taxonomic study using chemometric and numerical taxonomic approaches on 15 populations of 12 species of major taxa of the genus Clematis, belonging to sections, Rectae, Clematis, Meclatis, Tubulosae and Viorna were analyzed by HPLC coupled with diode array detector and ESI-MS. The chemodiversity profile of saponins proved to be useful taxonomic markers for the genus and results ar...
The fungal pathogen Phoma clematidina is used as a biological agent to control the invasive plant species Clematis vitalba in New Zealand. Research conducted on P. clematidina as a potential biocontrol agent against C. vitalba, led to the discovery of two perithecial-forming strains. To assess the diversity of P. clematidina and to clarify the teleomorph-anamorph relationship, phylogenetic anal...
Wood anatomy of 14 species of Clematis and one species each of Delphinium, Helleborus, Thalictrum, and Xanthorhiza (Ranunculaceae) is compared to that of Glaucidium palma tum (Glaucidiaceae) and Hydrastis canadensis (Ranunculaceae, or Hydrastidaceae of some authors). Clematis wood has features typical of wood of vines and lianas: wide (earlywood) vessels, abundant axial parenchyma (earlywood, s...
