Seedlings of aluminum-tolerant 'Xuegan' (Citrus sinensis) and Al-intolerant 'sour pummelo' (Citrus grandis) were fertigated for 18 weeks with nutrient solution containing 0 and 1.2 mM AlCl₃·6H₂O. Al toxicity-induced inhibition of photosynthesis and the decrease of total soluble protein only occurred in C. grandis leaves, demonstrating that C. sinensis had higher Al tolerance than C. grandis. Us...

The effect of aqueous extract of Citrus sinensis peel on some biochemical parameters in alloxan-induced diabetic rats was investigated. Sixteen (16) adult male albino rats (181 g to 206 g) were randomly divided into four groups (A-D). 150 mg/kg body weight of alloxan was administered intra-peritoneally to the rats to induce diabetes. A normal control group, diabetic group, treated group with th...

BACKGROUND Ethnomedicine is gaining admiration since years but still there is abundant medicinal flora which is unrevealed through research. The study was conducted to assess the in vitro antimicrobial potential and also determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Citrus sinensis peel extracts with a view of searching a novel extract as a remedy for dental caries pathogens. MATERI...

In situ hybridization of 18S-5.8S-25S rDNA probes labeled with biotin or rhodamine and 5S rDNA probes labeled with digoxigenin was used to locate rDNA sites on root-tip metaphase chromosomes of Citrus sinensis L. (2n = 2x = 18), Poncirus trifoliata L. Raf. (2n = 2x = 18), and Citrus x Poncirus hybrids (2n = 2x = 18). Counterstaining with the fluorochromes chromomycin A3 and DAPI uniquely identi...

Damage caused by the ant Azteca barbifex (Forel) was identified in orange trees (Citrus sinensis), in Capitão Poço County, Guamá microregion, Pará State. The damage caused by the scraping of stems and branches lead to reduction in yield with subsequent death of the plant. These characteristics indicate A. barbifex as a potential pest of citrus crops in the eastern region of Amazon.
