Chryseobacterium indologenes is a non-fermentative Gram-negative bacillus that is a rare pathogen in humans. Its occurrence in diabetic children has not been previously reported. In this report, a case is described of C. indologenes bacteraemia possibly associated with the use of a peripheral venous catheter. A 2-year-old boy with type I diabetes mellitus was admitted due to a coma caused by ce...

The class B carbapenem-hydrolyzing beta-lactamase IND-1 has been characterized for Chryseobacterium indologenes strain 001. With internal primers for the bla gene for IND-1 (bla(IND-1)) and an internal bla(IND-1) probe, PCR amplifications failed, while hybridization results were positive when DNA from another C. indologenes isolate, strain CIP101026, was used as a template. Thus, a bla(IND)-rel...

Chryseobacterium indologenes is an uncommon pathogen of human disease and is usually associated with indwelling devices or immunocompromised hosts. We report here an unusual case of C. indologenes peritonitis in an oncological patient with malignant ascites. The patient was treated successfully by trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole without removal of the catheter.

BACKGROUND Chryseobacterium indologenes is an emerging opportunistic pathogen in hospital-acquired infection, which is intrinsically resistant to most antimicrobial agents against gram-negative bacteria. In the purpose of extending our understanding of the resistance mechanism of C. indologenes, we sequenced and analyzed the genome of an extensively antibiotic resistant C. indologenes strain, i...

We decipher the resistome of Chryseobacterium indologenes MARS15, an emerging multidrug-resistant clinical strain, using the whole genome sequencing strategy. The bacterium was isolated from the sputum of a hospitalized patient with cystic fibrosis in the Timone Hospital in Marseille, France. Genome sequencing was done with Illumina MiSeq using a paired-end strategy. The in silico analysis was ...

A 64-year-old female was diagnosed with adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma. She then underwent an unrelated allogeneic bone marrow transplantation with a reduced-intensity regimen. She achieved engraftment followed by HHV-6 encephalopathy. This was complicated by Chryseobacterium indologenes pneumonia. Chryseobacterium indologenes is now a possible emergent organism resistant to carbapenem after tr...

INTRODUCTION This report documents a rare case of Chryseobacterium indologenes urinary tract infection in Senegal. Chryseobacterium indologenes is an uncommon human pathogen reported in hospital outbreaks in Taiwan and there have been some sporadic cases reported in Europe and in the USA mainly from immune-suppressed patients. CASE PRESENTATION This case report describes a 42-year-old woman o...

Chryseobacterium indologenes is a rare cause of infection in infants. The majority of case reports belong to hospitalized infants with indwelling devices. We are presenting a rare case of Chryseobacterium indologenes meningitis in a healthy newborn with no neonatal intensive care unit admissions or indwelling devices. The pathogen is resistant to many antibiotics and the patient was successfull...

Chryseobacterium indologenes is an emerging pathogen which poses a threat in clinical healthcare setting due to its multidrug-resistant phenotype and its common association with nosocomial infections. Here, we report the draft genome of a multidrug-resistant C. indologenes CI_885 isolated in 2014 from Malaysia. The 908,704-kb genome harbors a repertoire of putative antibiotic resistance determi...
