Background: Considering that some vital organs exist in the head and neck region, the treatment of tumors in this area is a crucial task. The existence of air cavities, namely sinuses, disrupt the radiotherapy dose distribution. The study aims to analyze the effect of maxillary, frontal, ethmoid and sphenoid sinuses on radiotherapy dose distribution by Monte Carlo method.Materials and Methods: ...

While ecosystem engineering is a widespread structural force of ecological communities, the mechanisms underlying the inter-specific associations between ecosystem engineers and resource users are poorly understood. A proper knowledge of these mechanisms is, however, essential to understand how communities are structured. Previous studies suggest that increasing the quantity of resources provid...

background: volume fraction (vf) and location of internal voids and gaps in relation to material type and cavity dimensions in ultraconservative restorations were investigated in this study. materials and methods: forty-eight round cavities of 1.3 mm mean diameter and 2.6 mm mean depth were made on buccal and lingual surfaces of recently extracted human teeth. these were fi lled and thermocycle...

Nano cavities based on silicon and indium phosphide materials have been comparedin this study, considering field intensity enhancement factor. The results of FDTD based simulations declare that the Si nano-cavity improves confined optical field about 7.7 times higher than the InP based nano-cavity. The introduced dielectric nano-cavities support resonance wavelength at about λ=1.55 μm.

microleakage can be responsible for tooth hypersensitivity, secondary caries, and the possibility of pathological pulp alterations in restored teeth. recently, alternative methods for tooth preparation such as laser irradiation have been studied; but there are limited studies on primary teeth. the aim of this in vitro study was to compare the degree of microleakage of composite restorations pre...

Photonic crystal nanobeam cavities are versatile platforms of interest for optical communications, optomechanics, optofluidics, cavity QED, etc. In a previous work [Appl. Phys. Lett. 96, 203102 (2010)], we proposed a deterministic method to achieve ultrahigh Q cavities. This follow-up work provides systematic analysis and verifications of the deterministic design recipe and further extends the ...

To build the ~14,000 cavities required for the ILC each of the three world regions must have a sizable industrial base of qualified companies to draw cavities from. Two of these companies, Niowave Inc. and C.F. Roark Welding & Engineering Co., Inc, recently manufactured six 1.3 GHz single-cell cavities for qualification purposes. All six cavities achieved gradients above 25 MV/m before they wer...
