Highly active and stable MoS2/carbon hierarchical spheres with abundant active edge sites were fabricated by a simple micro-emulsion procedure where PVP was used as the carbon source, and carbon disulfide as the sulfur source and oil phase in micro-emulsion to control the morphology of MoS2. Hierarchical spheres of MoS2/carbon with a diameter of ca. 500 nm were obtained and characterized by sca...
Carbon coated porous hollow Na2FePO4F (C/Na2FePO4F) spheres with 500 nm diameter and 80 nm wall thickness are synthesized by a one-step template-free ultrasonic spray pyrolysis process using sucrose as the carbon source. Nano-sized porous hollow C/Na2FePO4F spheres allow electrolyte to penetrate into the hollow structure, and thus the electrochemical reaction can take place on both the outside ...
Millimetre-sized mesoporous carbon spheres (MMCSs) with smooth surface and penetrating mesoporous channels have been successfully prepared by an emulsion-EISA technique, and are found to be a much better bilirubin adsorbent than commercial activated carbon spheres. Hemolysis and coagulation assays of MMCSs indicate that they have negligible hemolysis effect and do not induce blood coagulation.
Monodispersed nanosize carbon spheres have recently been synthesized using a mixed-valent oxide-catalytic carbonization (MVOCC) process. In this paper, a high surface porosity of carbon spheres produced by an interaction with WO, is reported. The interaction mechanism is due to the reduction of WO, to W driven by an internal Auger decay process under the stimulation of a high-energy electron be...
Herein we report the design and synthesis of fluorine-doped, carbon-encapsulated hollow Fe3O4 spheres (h-Fe3O4@C/F) through mild heating of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-coated hollow Fe3O4 spheres. The spheres exhibit enhanced cyclic and rate performances. The as-prepared h-Fe3O4@C/F shows significantly improved electrochemical performance, with high reversible capacities of over 930 mA h g(-...
Biomass derived carbon materials have been widely used as electrode materials; however, in most cases, only electrical double layer capacitance (EDLC) is utilized and therefore, only low energy density can be achieved. Herein, we report on redox-active carbon spheres that can be simply synthesized from earth-abundant glucose via a hydrothermal process. These carbon spheres exhibit a specific ca...
Carbon spheres and tubes were formed from acetylene decomposition on SBA-15 and Ni-SBA-15 at 650-850 °C. At 650 °C, the decomposed carbons covered the surface of the support, and no carbon spheres and filament materials were formed. Carbon sphere formation occurred at 750 °C-850 °C; with diameters ranging from 0.8 μm-1.1 μm. For Ni-SBA-15, the diameters of the spheres and filaments were 0.8 μm ...
The synthesis of hollow carbon nanospheres or capsules has attracted considerable attention because of their potential applications in catalyst supports, fuel cells, gas storage and separation, and lithium-ion batteries, which result from their unique features, such as high surface-to-volume ratio and high structural stability. Templating is the method widely used to synthesize hollow carbon sp...
