Ultrasonic spray pyrolysis was used in a continuous flow apparatus for the template-free synthesis of ironand nitrogen-doped porous carbon materials. Solutions of glucose, histidine and Fe(CH3COO)2 were nebulized and pyrolyzed yielding carbon microspheres. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) and Focused Ion Beam (FIB) milling revealed that microspheres initi...

MoO2 hollow microspheres with tunable inner space have been synthesized through a hydrothermal process using MoO3 microbelts instead of bulk MoO3 as the precursor. It is found that the reactant morphology has a great impact on the product morphology and the inner space can be tuned by changing the amount of NaOH aqueous solution. An interesting evolutional process from MoO3 microbelts through a...

Mesoporous and hollow carbon microspheres embedded with magnetic nanoparticles (denoted as MHM) were prepared via a facile self-sacrificial method for rapid capture of low-abundant peptides from complex biological samples. The morphology, structure, surface property, and magnetism were well-characterized. The hollow magnetic carbon microspheres have a saturation magnetization value of 130.2 emu...

Bifunctional Au-loaded Fe3O4@C composite microspheres were controllably synthesized by coating of Au nanoparticles (NPs) on the surface of the poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) functionalized Fe3O4@C microspheres. The amount of Au loading can be effectively tuned by altering the feeding amounts of solution Au NPs or further growth. The obtained Au-loaded Fe3O4@C composite microspher...

Monodisperse resorcinol formaldehyde resin (RF) microspheres are an important polymeric material because of their rich surface functional group and uniform structural characteristics and have been increasingly applied as an electrode material, catalyst support, absorbent, and carbon microsphere precursor. The polymerization conditions, such as the gelation/solidification temperature and the res...

Novel hierarchically porous and nitrogen, sulfur-codoped graphene-like microspheres (3D NS-GSs) are synthesized using Ni microspheres as the template and using poly(vinylpyrrolidone) and (NH4)2S2O8 as the carbon and nitrogen precursor, respectively. As an anode material in lithium ion batteries, the 3D NS-GS electrode displays a superior capacity with excellent cycling stability.

This work describes the sensing properties of carbon paste electrodes (CPES) prepared from three different types of carbonaceous materials: graphite, carbon microspheres and carbon nanotubes. The electrochemical responses towards antioxidants including vanillic acid, catechol, gallic acid, L-ascorbic acid and L-glutathione have been analyzed and compared. It has been demonstrated that the elect...

Silver microspheres were synthesized in an easy and environmentally friendly process by a sacrificial templating method. Carbonaceous microspheres were used as hard templates, which had been synthesized previously by a hydrothermal carbonization process. Silver spheres were synthesized by thermal removal of the core carbon component. The thickness of shell could be controlled by the concentr...
