The first synthesis of a monohydroxy pillar[5]arene has been carried out, by controlling the de-O-methylation of per-methylated pillar[5]arene. Using monohydroxy pillar[5]arene as an intermediate, mono-guest-functionalized pillar[5]arene was prepared. It formed a self-inclusion complex in CDCl(3) whereas in acetone-d(6) dethreading of the guest moiety took place.

BACKGROUND The new ruthenium(II)-arene complex, which bearing a carborane unit, ruthenium and ferrocenyl functional groups, has a novel versatile synthetic chemistry and unique properties of the respective material at the nanoscale level. The ruthenium(II)-arene complex shows significant cytotoxicity to cancer cells and tumor-inhibiting properties. However, ruthenium(II)-arene complex of mechan...

Diffuse reflectance and luminescence techniques were used to study the photophysics and photochemistry of pyrene within p-tert-butylcalix[n]arenes with n = 4, 6, and 8, and to study their ability to form inclusion complexes in heterogeneous media. Evidences for inclusion complex formation were found for the three hosts under study. Ground state diffuse reflectance results have shown the formati...

Cationic titanium(IV) complexes with ansa-(eta(5)-cyclopentadienyl,eta(6)-arene) ligands were synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography. The strength of the metal-arene interaction in these systems was studied by variable-temperature NMR spectroscopy. Complexes with a C(1) bridge between the cyclopentadienyl and arene moieties feature hemilabile coordination behavior of the ligand ...

This work is the first in-depth study of osmium binding to DNA and confirms the pharmacological activity of a new class of anticancer metallodrugs. We investigated the interactions between the potential biological target DNA and four osmium(II) arene complexes, of the type [(eta 6-arene)Os(LL)Cl]n+, where arene = biphenyl or p-cymene and LL = ethylenediamine, picolinate, or oxinate in an effort...

Arene ruthenium complexes [(h-arene)Ru(sacc)2(OH2)] (arene 1⁄4 para-cymeme, benzene) containing an aqua and two saccharinato ligands have been synthesized from [(h-arene)RuCl2]2 and sodium saccharinate in a water-ethanol mixture (1:1). The aqua complex [(h-MeC6H4Pr)Ru(sacc)2(OH2)] reacts with acetonitrile to give the acetonitrile complex [(h-MeC6H4Pr)Ru(sacc)2(NCMe)]. The corresponding benzene ...

p-tert-Butylcalix[8]arene-octaacetic acid octaethyl ester and calix[8]arene-octaacetic acid octaethyl ester well recognized 2-phenylethylamine and phenylalanine methyl ester compared with the corresponding calix[6]arene derivatives. Moreover, the calix[8]arene derivatives, especially one having tert-butyl groups, gave better selectivity against biologically active amines having a complicated st...

A cyclohexadiene ligand prepared by microbial arene 1,2-dihydroxylation undergoes spontaneous rearrangement upon complexation to tricarbonyliron(0). Subsequent iron removal affords a novel route to formal arene 2,3-dihydroxylation products enantiomeric to those obtainable by direct microbial arene oxidation.

an azobenzene bridge was introduced into the lower (or smaller) rim of p-tert-butylcalix[8]arene to form 1,5-singly bridged calix[8]arene derivatives, respectively. bridged calix[8]arene of conformationally rigid wereisolated. the stability of the two structures of bridged calix[8]arenes have been compared.the study of organicstructure to form nanoporous structures is a well known in chemistry ...
