We evaluated a new immunoblot assay (Helicoblot 2.1) for Helicobacter pylori infection and CagA and VacA status by using serum samples from 222 patients. The test accurately detected H. pylori infection and VacA status, but improvements in the interpretation criteria are required before it can be recommended for determination of CagA status.

UNLABELLED H. pylori is related to various gastrointestinal diseases. β₂ Microglobulin (β 2M) is an intrinsic element of major histocompatibility complex (MHC I). Serum β₂M level may increase in inflammatory states. The aim of current study is to evaluate the relationship between β₂M and H. pylori bearing CagA strains. METHODS H. pylori status was determined by histopathology of samples taken...

The clinical outcome of Helicobacter pylori infection may be associated with the cagA bacterial genotype. To investigate the cagA status of H. pylori-infected patients and the relationship between cagA and peptic ulcer disease, gastric biopsy specimens from 103 Caucasian patients in Brazil were analyzed by PCR. Since allelic variation in cagA exists and distinct H. pylori subgenotypes may circu...

Genotypic variation of Helicobacter pylori is speculated to associate with different clinical outcomes. In Western countries, the gene encoding blood group antigen-binding adhesin (BabA), babA2, is of high clinical relevance and is a useful marker to identify patients who are at higher risk for peptic ulceration and gastric adenocarcinoma, as are vacA and cagA. We investigated the presence of b...

background:â there is a relationship between specific genotypes of helicobacter pylori caga and vaca genes and the increased risk of peptic ulcer diseases and gastric cancer. these genes also possess strong patterns of geographical differentiation. the present study aims to determine the patterns of variation of the virulence genes in iran and their association with clinical status. materials a...

Obesity is an important public health problem in the United States. Because of its potential effects on gastric leptin homeostasis, Helicobacter pylori may play a role in regulating body weight. The authors' aim in this study was to examine the association between H. pylori colonization and overweight status. Nonpregnant participants in the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey...

There are inconsistent reports regarding cytotoxin-associated gene A (cagA) status of Helicobacter pylori isolates and the severity of the mucosal lesions in children. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of cagA(+) strains and to evaluate its correlation with clinic and endoscopic findings. We examined 45 H. pylori strains that were grown on brain-heart infusion agar supplemen...

If cytotoxin-associated gene A (CagA) status affects the response rates of therapy, then it may be possible to predict Helicobacter pylori eradication rates. We aimed to evaluate the response to eradication treatment of H. pylori infection in CagA-positive and CagA-negative patients. A total of 184 patients (93 males, 91 females, mean age 42.6 +/- 12.8 years) with H. pylori-positive chronic gas...

AIMS To determine the relation among the cytotoxin associated gene (cagA) and vacuolating cytotoxin gene (vacA) status of Helicobacter pylori isolates, the associated clinical diseases, and the severity and pattern of chronic gastritis. METHODS Helicobacter pylori was cultured from gastric biopsies obtained from dyspeptic patients. DNA was extracted from the isolates and the cagA and vacA sta...

Background and Objective: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is one of the most common gastrointestinal infections worldwide. Infection with H. pylori strains may results in different pathological manifestation and increased oxidative stress lead to a strong inflammatory response in gastric mucosa. There is continuing interest in identifying H. pylori virulence factors that might p...
