A one-dimensional assembly of cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles was prepared by using functionalized polymers with pendant Fréchet-type dendritic wedges of different generation. The novel dendronized polymers acted as both nanoreactors for the formation of CdS nanoparticles and a template to arrange the nanoparticles into a necklace. The polymers of different dendron generation were applied t...

The effects of surface passivation on the photoluminescence (PL) properties of CdS nanoparticles oxidized by straightforward H2O2 injection were examined. Compared to pristine cadmium sulfide nanocrystals (quantum efficiency ≅ 0.1%), the surface-passivated CdS nanoparticles showed significantly enhanced luminescence properties (quantum efficiency ≅ 20%). The surface passivation by H2O2 injectio...

Improvement of polyvinyl alcohol stability against ultraviolet (UV) illumination is achieved by introducing cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles into the polymeric matrix. Enhancement of stability is analyzed by optical characterization methods. UV protection is achieved by diminishing the probability of photo-activated formation of defects in polymer. The sources of polymer protection are the l...

We report for the first time the enzymatic etching of cadmium sulfide nanoparticles (CdS NPs). The fluorescence of semiconductor CdS NPs is modulated irreversibly by an enzymatic reaction catalyzed by horseradish peroxidase (HRP). We observed blue-shifts of the corresponding fluorescence peaks for CdS NPs and a decrease in the intensity of the fluorescence signal.

The aim of this study was to investigate the interaction of cadmium chloride with mineral elements in rat nephrocytes in terms of the biosynthesis of nanocomplexes. The results show that selenium supplementation enhanced cadmium accumulation in kidneys. Analysis of the fluorescence revealed an increase in red fluorescence in the kidneys of rats co-exposed to cadmium and selenium. Interestingly,...

UNLABELLED CdS nanoparticles have a great potential for application in chemical research, bioscience and medicine. The aim of this study was to develop an efficient and environmentally-friendly method of plant-based biosynthesis of CdS quantum dots using hairy root culture of Linaria maroccana L. By incubating Linaria root extract with inorganic cadmium sulfate and sodium sulfide we synthesized...

Using pharmacological and biochemical approaches, Ca2+ involved in the betulin production in mycelia of Phellinus linteus induced by hydrogen sulfide (H2S) were investigated. The results showed that 2 mM H2S donor NaHS or 10 mM CaCl2 was found to enhance the betulin content in the mycelia of Phellinus to the maximum, which were 112.43 and 93.24 % higher than that in the control, respectively. F...

Photoreactivity of cadmium sulfide nanoparticles as undoped and doped with manganese, nickel and copper were studied in the decolorization of methylene blue and safranin under UV and Vis irradiations. The dopant, mole fraction of dopant to cadmium ion, pH of solution, dosage of photocatalyst and concentration of dye are variables that influence on the photoreactivity of nanocatalysts. In among ...

The collective properties of nanoparticles manifest in their ability to self-organize into complex microscale structures. Slow oxidation of tellurium ions in cadmium telluride (CdTe) nanoparticles results in the assembly of 1- to 4-micrometer-long flat ribbons made of several layers of individual cadmium sulfide (CdS)/CdTe nanocrystals. Twisting of the ribbons with an equal distribution of left...
