Bullous systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a kind of LE-non-specific bullous skin disease that is rarely induced by a medication. We describe the first case of bullous SLE to develop after administration of methimazole. A 31-yr-old woman presented with generalized erythematous patches, multiple bullae, arthralgia, fever, conjunctivitis, and hemolytic anemia. Biopsy of her bulla showed linear...

BP: bullous pemphigoid DP: dyshidrosiform pemphigoid INTRODUCTION Dyshidrosiform bullous pemphigoid (DP) is an unusual localized variant of bullous pemphigoid (BP), first described by Levine et al in 1979. It presents with a persistent and recurrent vesicobullous eruption, sometimes hemorrhagic, localized to the soles and/or palms. Since the clinical manifestations of DP are similar to those of...

Background & Objective: Autoimmune bullous diseases are associated with autoimmunity against structural components in the skin and mucous membranes. Autoantibodies are against the intercellular junctions in pemphigus disease and hemidesmosomal unchoring complex in pemphigiod diseases and epidermolysis bullosa aquisita. The tissue-bound and circulating serum autoantibodies can be detect...

The possible involvement of mast cell tryptase and chymase in subepidermal bullous diseases was studied enzyme-histochemically in specimens from erythematous and vesicular skin and from non-involved skin of patients with dermatitis herpetiformis, bullous pemphigoid, erythema multiforme, infective bullous eruption and linear IgA dermatosis. Patients with pemphigus were biopsied for comparison. T...

PURPOSE Expression of cellular adhesion molecules is altered in bullous keratopathy. The hypothesis that epithelial alterations in bullous keratopathy compromise the surface of the cornea and its glycocalyx was tested. METHODS Studies were performed on eight cases each of pseudophakic bullous keratopathy and healthy corneas. The number of epithelial cell layers was determined with a stereolog...

A 52 year old man developed bullous pemphigoid, Coombs' positive haemolytic anaemia and diarrhoea related to the use of mefenamic acid. Clinical manifestation of the bullous pemphigoid, haemolytic anaemia and diarrhoea resolved following discontinuation of the mefenamic acid. Mefenamic acid should be added to the list of agents that are known to induce bullous pemphigoid.
