A new species of freshwater crab, Sodhiana iranica n. sp. (Decapoda: Brachyura: Gecarcinucidae), is described from Bastak, Iran. This is fourth species of Sodhiana Yeo & Ng, 2012, described, and is the second one known from Iran. It can be distinguished from congeners by the form of its carapace and the structure of the male first gonopod.

Tuerkayana is of particular interest because it has been separated, in recent years, from Cardisoma and Discoplax but studies its taxonomic status, especially a whole mitochondrial genome perspective, have lacking. In this study, the mitogenomes four species (Tuerkayana magnum, rotundum, hirtipes, celeste) are sequenced contrasted with other Brachyura for first time. The phylogenetic tree Brach...

This study represents an unprecedented effort to assess the diversity of rocky infralittoral decapod Brachyura and Anomura from Laje de Santos Marine State Park, a preserved protected area along southeastern Brazilian coast. The samples were carried out quarterly for one year, using combination artificial refuge substrate passive capture specimens SCUBA dive active capture. Specimens sampled de...

The pyloric network of decapod crustaceans has been intensively studied electrophysiologically in the infraorders Astacidea, Brachyura, and Palinura. The morphology of some or all pyloric neurons has been well described in Astacidea and Brachyura, but less so in Palinura. Given the large evolutionary distance between these three groups, and the large amount of electrophysiology that has been pe...

Blood smears from 132 skates Raja spp. captured on the continental shelf off Galicia (NW Spain) were examined for blood parasites. The skate species were Raja brachyura (n=60), R. microocellata (n=52) and a total of 20 specimens belonging to R. undulata, R. montagui and another 2 unidentified Raja species, all captured between March 1999 and March 2000. Two blood parasite species were found, Tr...

Eight species of Brachyura and two species of Anomura were registered for the first time on the Santa Catarina coast, in the waters around the Arvoredo Marine Biological Reserve. The animals were collected by scuba divers, between 3 and 22 meters depth, from September 2001 to February 2003. A total of 31 decapod species were collected, and most of the new occurrences had already been registered...

The coastal area in North Sulawesi which has a length of about 1.985 km, is potential with biodiversity supported by the associated biota it. Crustaceans are characterized by some of the most variable genome sizes among animals. Significant relationships between size and specific eco-physiological morphological features have been described in many crustacean taxa, such as Amphipoda, Ostracoda, Cladocera, Copepoda. A consistent pattern variation is yet to be found, however, one specious order crustaceans, Decapoda. We investigated how...

William Stimpson (1860) established Mimulus (Brachyura: Majoidea: Epialtidae), with a single species, Mfoliatus. Rathbun (1894) placed the genus in synonymy with Pugettia Dana, 18951, but subsequent authors have considered Mimulus to be a valid genus. Genetic evidence and re-examination of the morphology indicate that M. foliatus belongs to a clade of majoid crabs consisting of species of Puget...

Pseudopalicus bidens (Brachyura, Palicidae) is described as a new species from the Andaman Sea, on the western coast of Thailand. The new species can be distinguished from its congeners by its anterolateral teeth on each side of the carapace, with the first two being considerably larger than the last two, as well as for morphology of the gonopods. The new species will bring the number of descri...
