We consider global properties of gravitomagnetism by investigating the grav-itomagnetic field of a rotating cosmic string. We show that although the gravitomagnetic field produced by such a configuration of matter vanishes locally , it can be detected globally. In this context we discuss the gravitational analogue of the Aharonov-Bohm effect.

We review the spectral and the scattering theory for the Aharonov-Bohm model on R. New formulae for the wave operators and for the scattering operator are presented. The asymptotics at high and at low energy of the scattering operator are computed.

Forces related to A-B phases between fluxons with Φ = αΦ 0 α = integer are discussed. We find a α 2 ln(r) type interaction screened on a scale λ s. The forces exist only when the fluxons are actually immersed in the region with non vanishing charge density and are periodic in α. We briefly comment on the problem of observing such forces.
