Backgraound: It is recommended to use BIS (BISpectral) to determine anesthesia levels. Currently, due to low capacity in Iran, anesthesiologists use cardiac indices, such as pulse rates and blood pressure to detect anesthesia levels. This study was designed to assess association of cardiac parameters with anesthesia levels measured by brain function. Methods: In this descriptive study, 14 pati...

Editor’s key points † Bispectral index (BIS) monitoring is commonly used to monitor depth of anaesthesia. † The authors studied parturients in whom standard techniques were used for general anaesthesia for Caesarean section. † The isolated forearm test was used to study the ability of the BIS to detect consciousness. † BIS values below 60 were commonly associated with IFT responses, particularl...

Background: The use of clinical signs may not be reliable to measure the hypnotic component of anaesthesia. Bispectral Index monitoring provides a direct measurement of the hypnotic effect of the anaesthetic agent used and it may have certain clinical advantages over clinical signs. Objective: This study consists of dose requirement of propofol with bispectral Index monitoring and without bispe...

We have compared fronto-central and bifrontal montages using a new EEG monitor, the Aspect A-1000. The monitor uses bispectral analysis to derive an index of anaesthetic depth, the bispectral index (BIS). We compared reliability, impedance and BIS for each montage. ECG electrodes placed in a bifrontal montage were more reliable than silver dome electrodes in a fronto-central montage and both ty...

OBJECTIVE To identify the entropy levels that would correspond to bispectral index (BIS) levels in general anesthesia (GA) induction in patients who will undergo elective lumbar disc surgery (LDS). METHODS Thirty cases who underwent LDS under GA were included in our study after obtaining patient consent and approval of the Ethics Committee of Afyon Kocatepe University Medical School, Afyonkar...

I report two patients undergoing open heart surgery, with nitrous oxide and isoflurane anaesthesia, for whom bispectral index (BIS) monitoring showed high BIS values with nitrous oxide and isoflurane anaesthesia. The BIS decreased immediately after nitrous oxide was stopped and increased again after nitrous oxide was restarted.

UNLABELLED In this study, we tested the validity of the bispectral index (BIS) monitor during conscious and deep sedation of children by comparing it with the University of Michigan Sedation Scale (UMSS), a validated observational pediatric sedation scale. Eighty-six children <12 yr of age were enrolled in this observational study. The subjects underwent conscious or deep sedation administered ...

Introduction: Bispectral Index is an objective tool to assess electroencephalographic activity and measure the effect of certain sedatives and hypnotics on the brain. In addition, there are certain subjective tools such as the observer's assessment of alertness and sedation which are used. The correlation between BIS and the concentration of propofol in the brain, and the relationship between t...

Bispectral index (BIS) monitoring is commonly used to provide a measure of depth during general anaesthesia in attempt to reduce the rare occurrence of awareness [1,2]. The Bispectral Index is a generated number between 0 and 100 that is derived through utilization of a number of advanced EEG signal processing techniques including bispectral analysis, power spectral analysis, and time domain an...
