We report the utility of contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance cholangiography (MRC) using gadoxetic acid (Gd-EOB-DTPA) in the diagnosis of bronchobiliary fistula associated with liver hydatid cyst. Contrast-enhanced MRC clearly delineated the leakage of contrast agent from the biliary duct and its communication with the bronchial tree. Providing functional information about physiologic or patho...

INTRODUCTION Cholecystocolonic fistula is a rare condition and is found in roughly 1 in every 10,000. It represents 6.3% to 26.5% of all cholecystenteric fistulas (Chowbey et al., 2006; Angrisani et al., 2001; Yamashita et al., 1997). Cholecystocolonic fistula is the second most common intestinal fistula after cholecystoduodenal fistula (Costi et al., 2009). Rarity of this condition, atypical p...

BACKGROUND Mirizzi syndrome is a rare complication of prolonged cholelithiasis with presence of large, impacted gallstone into the Hartman's pouch, causing chronic extrinsic compression of common bile duct (CBD). Fistula formation between the CBD and the gallbladder may represent an outcome of that condition. According to Mirizzi's classification and Csendes's subclassification, Mirizzi syndrom...

INTRODUCTION Operations on the common bile duct may lead to potentially serious complications such as biliary peritonitis. T-tube insertion is performed to reduce the risk of this occurring postoperatively. Biliary leakage at the point of insertion into the common bile duct, or along the fistula, can sometimes occur after T-tube removal and this has been reported extensively in the literature. ...

Cholecystenteric fistula is one of the rarest complications of biliary lithiasis, with a frequency of less than 1%. Bouveret syndrome is a gastric outlet obstruction produced by gallstone(s) located in the distal stomach or proximal duodenum. The route of gallstone migration to the bowel is most commonly via a cholecystoduodenal fistula; however, fistulization of the stomach is a rarer variatio...

After surgery for hepatic injury as a result of blunt abdominal trauma from a motorcycle accident, an external biliary fistula developed in a young patient. The authors describe the rapid and complete healing of the fistula by use of a nasobiliary catheter. These findings emphasize the importance of endoscopic operative technique for postoperative and traumatic external biliary fistulas.

Biliary stent-related enteric perforations are very rare complications that are caused by the sharp end of a metallic stent, stent migration, or tumor invasion. Moreover, the choledochoduodenal fistula resulting from metallic biliary stent-induced perforation is extremely rare. Here, we report a case in which a spontaneous choledochoduodenal fistula occurred after biliary metallic stent placeme...

A 43-year old woman was admitted 11 days after open cholecystectomy with a iatrogenic bile duct injury. On admission the patient showed an uncontrolled biliary fistula through an external drain placed at an emergency laparotomy for biliary peritonitis with fever and jaundice. PTC showed a biliary stricture type II (Bismuth). A percutaneous drainage was performed to decompress the biliary system...

INTRODUCTION Controversy remains about the management of gallstone ileus. While some authors propose enterotomy, others defend the one-stage procedure (simultaneously fistula repair). The objective of the present study was to analyze management options and comparative study their results. MATERIAL AND METHODS Retrospective and descriptive study with revision of clinical stories of patients wi...
