Elementary model of intracellular (or intra-organellar) pattern formation: Belousov – Zhabotinsky reaction in a Petri dish. The Belousov – Zhabotinsky reaction (Belousov 1958) was devised as a primitive model of citric acid cycle. To the surprise of the authors, it brought about the phenomenon of chemical clock (in mixed systems) or spontaneous pattern formation (in still compartments). We use ...
For many years the Belousov–Zhabotinsky reaction has been used to explore the large variety of dynamical behavior of excitation waves. The understanding of chemical waves can be applied to other physical and biological systems. Most theoretical and experimental work has been done in planar media, whereas for nonplanar systems there exist many theoretical but only very few experimental studies. ...
We investigate the behavior of localized spots in three spatial dimensions in a model two-variable system describing the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction in water-in-oil microemulsion. We find three types of instabilities: splitting of a single spot (i) into two spots, (ii) into a torus, and (iii) into an unstable shell that splits almost immediately to six or eight new spots.
We propose a simple method of simulating chemical reactions by using a multiset rewriting systems, the Abstract Rewriting System on Multisets (ARMS). We simulate the Oregonator model, a mathematical model of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky and We obtain the same behavior when the differential equations are used. We also investigate the Oregonator with large stochastic fluctuations and confirm that the...
We have studied the phase dynamics in an oscillatory chemical system (Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction). The phase distribution and isophase lines in the 2D phase space were reconstructed. The dynamics proved to be well described in terms of the Burgers equation. The phase dependence of the coefficients of the equation was taken into account to estimate the region of the applicability of the Burge...
Stationary and oscillatory localized patterns (oscillons) are found in the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction dispersed in Aerosol OT water-in-oil microemulsion. The experimental findings are analyzed in terms of subcritical Hopf instability, subcritical Turing instability, and their combination.
