Wiedemannia artemisa sp. nov. (Diptera: Empididae: Clinocerinae) is described from the Balkan Peninsula. The prevalence of the disease was stable over many years, but now appears to decline in most affected settlements w1x. Some authors also suggest that the incidence of BEN decreases w1,2x and that it appears to be tapering off; others, however, describe a stable incidence of BEN w3x. The question arises on different epidemiological characteristics of the disease in different endemic regions. In ...
We describe here a new species of the bovid Criotherium, from the late Miocene of Bulgaria. The genus was previously known to definitely occur only in Samos (Greece) and Kemiklitepe (Western Turkey), with the single species C. argalioides. The new species, C. nikolovi, is more primitive than the latter, although both are probably contemporaneous, suggesting the occurrence of two lineages in the...
Hantaviruses are endemic in the Balkan Peninsula. An outbreak of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome occurred in 2002 in Serbia and Montenegro. The epidemiologic characteristics and genetic relatedness of Dobrava/Belgrade virus strains responsible for most cases are described.

There were an estimated three million people with active TB including 360000 with multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) who were not diagnosed, and such people continue to fuel TB transmission in the community. Accurate data on the actual burden of TB and the tra...

Studies conducted over the last 35 years point to mycotoxins, mainly ochratoxin A (OTA) as the main culprit. Recent theories however have implicated aristolochic acids (AA). The aim of this review is to put forward argumen...
